Most installers prefer sticking the panels directly to the wall with some form of panel adhesive, and as this adhesive is quite thick it can be used to pack out uneven areas of the wall. They are water proof, easy to install, easy to clean, mold resistant, do not have grouted, and can also be installed over the existing tiles.
