By his own description, this journalist has escaped some pretty close calls “by the skin of my teeth” in the 30 countries he has reported from. His time as Middle East correspondent was challenging enough but, as the photo below shows, his time in Baghdad, Iraq, came pretty close to ending his splendid career when he was nearly shot by US Marines.
