The Gauteng Township Economic Development Act is in full swing was signed into law by Premier Makhura in April this year and seeks to open new procurement and market opportunities for township businesses and create financing facilities for township-based enterprises. The act requires the provincial government to spend 40% of its procurement budget with township-based enterprises, aims to transform townships into fully-fledged commercial zones.
