PDF Sermon Manuscript: Momentum: A Study in Philippians - Standing While Running
The secret to running the race of the Christian life is learning to stand still. I know, that doesn’t sound quite right, so I’ll say it again. The secret to running the race of the Christian life is learning to stand still. The book of Philippians teaches us that the Christian life is forward moving. The Apostle Paul likens it to a race, whereby Christ is the prize. The moment we come to faith in Christ, we’re then set on an infinite journey to be more like him. A journey that is marked by humility and sacrifice. A journey where we gradually allow our lives to be shaped more and more by the gospel.
But it’s also a journey filled with opposition. A journey where we encounter enemies of the soul. A journey where we not only deal with outward pressure and spiritual warfare, but the sinful tendencies of our own flesh. How does one persevere through that? How do you stand firm while still running? We find the answer to that in Philippians 4:1-9.
