The Economy Is Slowing. So Why Does Everything Still Feel Expensive?

Welcome back to Ficonomy, where we take complicated financial and economic news and break it down into simple terms—and, most importantly, figure out what it actually means for your everyday life.

This week, we're looking at three very different stories that tell us something important about where the economy stands right now.

The economy is slowing. The job market is showing signs of weakness. Inflation is still elevated. And meanwhile, a major employer is spending hundreds of millions of dollars on GLP-1 medications for its employees.

So what does all of this mean for you?

That's what we're breaking down.

In this episode, we discuss:

The Job Market
Private companies added far fewer workers than expected in July. What does that tell us about hiring, job security, and the current labor market

Economic Growth & Inflation
The U.S. economy slowed in the second quarter while inflation remained elevated. Why can the economy slow down while prices continue to rise?

The Economics of GLP-1 Drugs
Why is Bank of America reportedly spending roughly $250 million or more annually on GLP-1 medications for employees? And what could the growing popularity of these drugs mean for healthcare, businesses, consumers, and the broader economy?

More importantly: what do you do with this information?

We talk about practical steps you can take today, including:

  • How to prepare for a potentially softer job market
  • Why an emergency fund matters when hiring slows
  • What to consider before taking on new debt
  • Why you shouldn't build your financial plans around predictions about interest rates
  • How to think about economic trends beyond the initial headline
  • Why understanding second-order effects can make you a smarter consumer and investor

The goal isn't to scare you about the economy.

It's to help you understand it.

Because the economy isn't some abstract thing that only matters to economists, politicians, or Wall Street.

It affects your paycheck, job, healthcare, spending, debt, investments, and everyday decisions.

That's Ficonomy.

Three stories. Simple explanations. Practical takeaways.

And hopefully, you leave this episode understanding the economy a little better than you did when you pressed play.

We’re All More Complicated Than Our Labels

What happens when we decide who someone is before we actually know them?

In this episode of Kyle Talks, I share a story from my time working as a cashier at Target during the 2020 election. A customer began talking to me about politics and made some pretty strong assumptions about the kind of people who supported Donald Trump.

There was just one problem: she had no idea she was talking to one.

The experience stuck with me—not because of the politics, but because of what it revealed about how easily we can create stories about entire groups of people based on assumptions, stereotypes, and our own beliefs.

We break the conversation down into four parts:

1. The Story — What happened at that Target checkout line.

2. The Issue — Why we so often make assumptions about people we don't actually know.

3. The Thoughts — What this says about political disagreement, human judgment, and the danger of putting people into simple boxes.

4. The Solution — How we can challenge our own assumptions, stay intellectually honest, and become better at understanding people—even when we strongly disagree with them.

You don't have to agree with someone.

You don't have to like their decisions.

But maybe we should be a little more careful about deciding who they are.

Because people are almost always more complicated than the label we've given them.Connect

When Did Disagreement Become Hatred? | Kyle Talks

Somewhere along the way, we've started treating disagreement as proof that someone is against us.

But is that actually true?

In this episode of Kyle Talks, I share a recent personal experience that reminded me how quickly people assume bad intentions simply because someone sees the world differently. We explore why disagreement has become so emotionally charged, why assuming hatred is often the easier path, and what it costs us when we stop giving people the benefit of the doubt.

Disagreement doesn't automatically equal disrespect.

Different opinions don't automatically equal malice.

And if we continue believing they do, we lose something much bigger than an argument—we lose our ability to understand one another.

In this episode we discuss:

  • Why disagreement isn't evidence of hatred
  • The danger of assuming motives instead of asking questions
  • Why emotionally mature people separate ideas from identity
  • How social media has trained us to expect conflict instead of conversation
  • Why giving people the benefit of the doubt creates healthier relationships
  • The difference between genuine malice and honest disagreement
  • Practical ways to navigate difficult conversations without sacrificing your convictions

Whether you agree with me or not, my hope is that this episode encourages you to approach your next disagreement with a little more curiosity and a little less certainty.

Because better conversations build better communities.

Welcome back to Ficonomy—the segment where we break down the biggest financial headlines in simple, practical terms so you can better understand what's happening in the economy and how it impacts your everyday life.

This week, we're looking at three major stories that could affect everything from your paycheck to your grocery bill and your next trip to the gas station.

We'll break down:

📈 The latest jobs report — What slowing job growth tells us about the economy and why a healthy job market still deserves your attention.

💵 Inflation (PCE) — Inflation continues to cool in some areas, but prices are still higher than many families would like. We'll explain what the latest report really means and why the Federal Reserve is paying close attention.

Oil prices are rising again — Growing tensions in the Middle East have pushed oil prices higher. We'll discuss how that can affect gas prices, shipping costs, and eventually the prices you pay for everyday goods.

What You'll Learn

  • What the latest jobs report is really telling us
  • Why inflation is still affecting household budgets
  • How global events can impact your wallet
  • Why oil prices matter even if you don't drive much
  • Practical ways to prepare without overreacting
  • How to stay financially disciplined in an uncertain economy

Practical Takeaways

This week's economic news reminds us that while the economy continues to move forward, uncertainty remains.

Instead of reacting emotionally to headlines, focus on what you can control:

  • Continue investing consistently if you're investing for the long term.
  • Build or maintain an emergency fund.
  • Pay down high-interest debt when possible.
  • Leave room in your budget for unexpected increases in everyday expenses.
  • Stay informed—but don't let fear drive your financial decisions.

Final Thought

The goal of Ficonomy isn't to predict the future.

It's to help you understand today's financial news so you can make better decisions tomorrow.

Because the economy affects all of us—but understanding it shouldn't require an economics degree.

Passion is powerful.

It fuels movements, inspires change, and pushes us to stand up for what we believe in. But there's one thing passion can't do:

It can't prove we're right.

In this solo episode of Kyle Talks, I explore why strong emotions and deep conviction are not the same as truth—and why confusing the two can make meaningful conversations almost impossible.

We live in a culture that often rewards certainty over curiosity. The louder someone speaks, the more confident they appear, or the more passionate they become, the easier it is to assume they must be right.

But history—and our own lives—tell a different story.

In this episode, I reflect on why intellectual humility matters, how our identities become tied to our opinions, and why some of the healthiest conversations begin with a simple question:

"What if I'm missing something?"

This isn't an argument against passion.

It's an invitation to pair passion with humility, curiosity, and a willingness to keep learning.

Because understanding someone else's perspective doesn't weaken your convictions—it helps ensure they're built on something stronger than emotion alone.

In This Episode

  • Why passion and truth are not the same thing
  • The difference between confidence and evidence
  • How identity shapes the way we defend our beliefs
  • Why certainty can become a barrier to learning
  • The role of intellectual humility in better conversations
  • Why asking good questions is more powerful than winning arguments
  • Practical ways to stay curious without compromising your values

Questions to Consider

  • Have you ever been completely convinced you were right… only to change your mind later?
  • What evidence would actually cause you to rethink one of your beliefs?
  • Are you defending the truth—or defending your identity?
  • Can you disagree passionately while remaining open to learning?

Final Thought

The goal isn't to become less passionate.

The goal is to become more thoughtful.

Because the strongest convictions aren't the ones that refuse to be questioned—they're the ones that have been tested, challenged, and refined through honest conversation.

Understanding doesn't equal agreement.

But it often leads to wisdom.

After my conversation with Haren Bhakta, I found myself thinking about something much bigger than investing.

Ownership.

In this episode of After The Conversation, I reflect on the ideas that stood out most from our discussion about investing, leadership, founder-led companies, and what it means to think like an owner.

We talked about the stock market, the S&P 500, insider ownership, and why some investors believe companies led by people with significant ownership stakes may make better long-term decisions.

But the deeper question that stayed with me was this:

How does ownership change behavior?

Whether we're talking about businesses, investing, leadership, or life itself, people often make different decisions when they have skin in the game.

In this episode, I share what resonated with me, where I'm still wrestling with the ideas, and why I think reflection is one of the most valuable parts of any meaningful conversation.

Topics discussed:

• My reflections on the conversation with Haren Bhakta
• Why ownership changes incentives
• Thinking like an owner versus thinking like a consumer
• Founder-led companies and long-term decision-making
• Does a company change when its founder leaves?
• What investors often overlook
• The importance of consistency in investing
• Where I agreed—and where I'm still thinking
• Lessons about trust, leadership, and responsibility

The goal of After The Conversation isn't to reach a final conclusion.

It's to slow down, think deeply, and continue the conversation after the microphones are turned off.

Because understanding doesn't end when the episode does.

Most investing advice is surprisingly simple:

Buy the S&P 500.
Invest consistently.
Think long term.

But what if there was another way to think about investing?

In this episode of Kyle Talks, I sit down with Haren Bhakta to discuss how everyday people can better understand the stock market, avoid common investing mistakes, and think more intentionally about where they put their money.

We explore why Haren believes companies with leaders who have significant ownership stakes may outperform traditional index approaches over time, why founder-led businesses often look and operate differently, and what investors may be missing when they simply "buy the market."

We also tackle bigger questions:

Does a company remain the same company after its founder leaves?

Should investors care who is actually running the businesses they own?

And how can someone just getting started begin investing without becoming overwhelmed?

Whether you're brand new to investing or have been contributing to your retirement accounts for years, this conversation offers practical insights and a fresh perspective on what it really means to invest.

Topics discussed:

• Why many investors choose the S&P 500
• The case for investing alongside company leadership
• What insider ownership actually means
• Why founder-led companies can perform differently
• Common mistakes investors make
• How emotions affect investing decisions
• The importance of consistency over perfection
• Does a company change when its original leaders leave?
• The McDonald's story and what it teaches us about business
• Practical advice for everyday investors

The goal isn't to beat the market overnight.

It's to understand what you own, why you own it, and make thoughtful decisions with confidence.

Because investing isn't just about growing wealth—it's about thinking like an owner.

After my conversation with Josh Dorfman, I found myself thinking less about climate change and more about people.

In this episode of After The Conversation, I reflect on what stood out most from our discussion—not just the topics we covered, but the deeper lessons underneath them.

We talked about climate change, politics, artificial intelligence, and the future of energy. But the question that stayed with me was much simpler:

How do we have productive conversations with people who see the world differently?

In this episode, I explore the importance of reflection over reaction, why facts alone rarely change minds, and what it means to approach disagreement with curiosity instead of certainty.

This isn't a recap of the conversation.

It's an invitation to think more deeply about it.

Topics discussed:

• Why reflection matters after important conversations
• The difference between reacting and thinking
• Why facts alone don't change minds
• The role identity plays in disagreement
• Curiosity versus certainty
• Climate change, politics, and public discourse
• What I learned from my conversation with Josh Dorfman
• Why understanding does not equal agreement

The goal of Kyle Talks has never been to tell you what to think.

The goal is to help all of us think better.

Because better conversations start with better reflection.

Climate change. Politics. Artificial intelligence. Energy. Disagreement.

Few topics generate more heat—or less understanding.

In this episode of Kyle Talks, I sit down with Josh Dorfman for a wide-ranging conversation about some of the biggest questions facing society today.

We explore the challenges of climate change, the role politics plays in shaping public perception, and why meaningful conversations across differences have become increasingly difficult. We also discuss the rapid growth of AI, the rise of data centers, and the opportunities and tradeoffs that come with technological progress.

Most importantly, we talk about solutions.

Rather than focusing on outrage, fear, or tribalism, this conversation explores what it looks like to approach complex problems with curiosity, nuance, and a willingness to learn from people who see the world differently.

Topics discussed:

• Climate change and practical solutions
• The intersection of politics and environmental issues
• How AI is reshaping energy consumption
• The impact of data centers on the future
• Talking with people you disagree with
• Finding common ground in polarized times
• Why curiosity may be more important than certainty

If you enjoy thoughtful conversations that challenge assumptions and encourage deeper thinking, this episode is for you.

Understanding does not equal agreement—but it is often where better conversations begin.

What does the economy actually look like from the perspective of someone managing over $600 million?

In this episode of Ficonomy, Kyle sits down with Adam Link to break down what’s really happening in the economy — beyond the headlines.

Because while markets may look strong on the surface, many everyday people are still struggling… and there’s a disconnect that isn’t being talked about enough.

This conversation is about closing that gap.

In This Episode

  • What’s actually happening in the economy right now
  • Why the headlines don’t tell the full story
  • The biggest financial mistakes people are making today
  • What investors see that most people miss
  • How to think about money in uncertain times
  • What you should be doing right now to prepare for the future

  • The economy can look strong while people still feel financially strained
  • Long-term success comes from behavior, not just knowledge
  • Most people react emotionally to money — and it costs them
  • Preparation matters more than prediction
  • You don’t need to be an expert — but you do need a plan

Why This Matters

There’s a growing gap between what’s happening in the markets… and what people are experiencing in real life.

Understanding that gap — and knowing how to respond to it — is one of the most important financial skills you can develop.

What happens after the conversation about partying, discipline, and regret ends?

In this episode of After The Conversation, Kyle reflects on his discussion with Evan Cudsworth — also known as the “Party Coach” — and breaks down what stood out, what challenged him, and what he’s still thinking about.

From unpacking what it actually means to be a “party coach,” to exploring the deeper goals behind it, this episode goes beyond the surface and into the thinking behind the conversation.

Because sometimes the most important part of a conversation… is what happens after.

In This Episode

  • What a “party coach” really is — and why it’s more nuanced than it sounds
  • The deeper intention behind Evan’s work
  • Kyle’s honest thoughts on the conversation itself
  • What stood out about Evan’s story and perspective
  • Where Kyle agreed — and where he had questions or tension
  • Why reflecting on conversations matters more than we think

Key Takeaways

  • Not everything is as simple as it first sounds — context matters
  • You can enjoy a conversation and still question parts of it
  • Reflection helps turn conversations into growth
  • Disagreement isn’t a bad thing — it’s often where learning happens
  • The goal isn’t to “win” conversations, but to understand them more deeply

Kyle’s Reflection

“I really enjoyed this conversation — but that doesn’t mean I agreed with everything. And I think that’s important.”

What Kyle Is Still Thinking About

  • Can you truly balance partying and discipline long-term?
  • Where is the line between enjoyment and escapism?
  • Is this approach realistic for most people — or only a few?

What if you didn’t have to choose between having fun… and having your life together?

In this episode of Kyle Talks, Kyle sits down with Evan Cudworth — also known as “The Party Coach” — to break down one of the most misunderstood parts of modern life: partying, alcohol, and balance.

Because for most people, it feels like a trade-off:
Have fun now, regret it later
Or be disciplined and miss out

But what if that’s the wrong way to think about it entirely?

This conversation challenges the extremes — and explores how you can enjoy social life, alcohol, and high-energy environments without sacrificing your health, your goals, or your identity.

In This Episode

  • Why most people regret partying — and what they get wrong
  • The difference between escaping and enjoying
  • How to stay in control without feeling restricted
  • The psychology behind drinking and social pressure
  • What it actually looks like to party with intention
  • Practical ways to enjoy nights out without next-day regret

Key Takeaways

  • You don’t have to eliminate fun to stay disciplined
  • Regret comes from lack of intention — not the experience itself
  • Social environments don’t control you — your decisions do
  • Balance isn’t about restriction — it’s about awareness
  • You can enjoy life and build something meaningful

Why This Matters

A lot of people feel stuck between two extremes:
“All in” or “completely out.”

But real life isn’t lived in extremes.

This episode is about finding a middle ground — one where you can show up, enjoy yourself, and still respect the life you’re building.

Engagement Prompt

👉 Do you think it’s actually possible to party hard without regret — or is that unrealistic?

What happens when we stop trying to win conversations… and start trying to understand?

In this episode of Kyle Talks, Kyle sits down with Monica Guzman — a leading voice on bridging divides in a world that feels more polarized than ever.

Together, they explore what it really means to be mentally tough in conversation — not by dominating others, but by staying open, grounded, and curious even when you strongly disagree.

This isn’t about abandoning your beliefs.
It’s about learning how to engage in a way that actually moves conversations forward.

🧭 In This Episode

  • Why we instinctively write people off — and why it’s dangerous
  • The difference between understanding and agreeing
  • How to stay calm when conversations get emotional
  • What “mental toughness” really looks like in disagreement
  • Practical ways to have more productive, respectful conversations

🧠 Key Takeaways

  • You don’t have to agree with someone to understand them
  • Writing people off shuts down growth — on both sides
  • Real strength in conversation comes from curiosity, not control
  • Productive conversations are a skill — and they can be learned

💬 Why This Matters

We’re living in a time where it’s easier than ever to label, dismiss, and move on.
But real progress — in relationships, communities, and culture — only happens when we choose to engage instead of avoid.

This episode is about reclaiming that ability.

This week on Ficonomy, we’re breaking down three major economic updates that could directly impact your everyday life — from your grocery bill to your gas tank to your borrowing costs.

Instead of reacting to headlines, we’re focusing on what actually matters:

  • What the Federal Reserve’s latest meeting tells us about interest rates
  • What new inflation data is signaling behind the scenes
  • Why rising oil prices could affect more than just gas

If you’ve been wondering why things still feel expensive — or what might be coming next — this episode is for you.

As always, the goal of Ficonomy is simple:
Break it down. Make it clear. Help you act.

What We Cover:

The Fed Meeting

  • Why the Federal Reserve is holding steady
  • What this means for interest rates, loans, and credit cards
  • Why we’re still in a “wait and see” economy

Inflation (PPI Data)

  • What the Producer Price Index actually measures
  • Why this matters before prices hit consumers
  • What early signals are telling us about future costs

Oil Prices Rising

  • What’s driving oil prices higher right now
  • How global events impact your wallet
  • Why oil affects more than just gas prices

This week’s data points to one thing:

We’re not in a crisis — but we’re not fully in the clear either.

That means:

  • Interest rates may stay higher for longer
  • Prices may not drop as quickly as people hope
  • External factors (like oil) can still push costs up

Practical Takeaways

  • Be cautious with high-interest debt
  • Take advantage of high-yield savings while rates are elevated
  • Keep a buffer in your budget for fluctuating costs
  • Stay disciplined — this is not the time to get careless financially

Final Thought

You don’t need to predict the economy to be prepared for it.
You just need to stay consistent, disciplined, and informed.

In this episode of Kyle Talks: After the Conversation, I reflect on my recent discussion with entrepreneur Andy Ellwood.

Andy is the founder of Stretch, a platform using artificial intelligence to help families navigate rising grocery costs by finding better prices and smarter buying decisions.

But our conversation went beyond groceries.

We talked about the future of artificial intelligence, the rise of AI agents, and the growing role technology may play in everyday decision-making.

In this episode, I step back and unpack a few things that stuck with me after the conversation:

  • What I learned from Andy’s perspective as a technology founder
  • The potential benefits of AI tools designed to help consumers
  • The tension between convenience and control in an AI-driven world
  • Whether technology is empowering people… or slowly replacing human decision-making
  • Why conversations like this matter as we try to understand the future we’re building

This episode isn’t about reaching final conclusions.

It’s about thinking out loud, reflecting honestly, and inviting listeners to wrestle with these questions alongside me.

Because understanding the future requires more than quick reactions — it requires curiosity, humility, and better conversations.

Topics Covered• Reflections from my conversation with Andy Ellwood
• The vision behind Stretch
• AI tools designed to help consumers save money
• The rise of AI agents and automated decision-making
• The balance between convenience and autonomy
• Why conversations about technology matter right now

Groceries are getting more expensive, AI is moving faster than ever, and many people are wondering how technology will shape everyday life.

In this episode of Kyle Talks, I sit down with entrepreneur Andy Ellwood to talk about business, artificial intelligence, and the future of consumer technology.

Andy has built and exited companies acquired by Facebook and Google, and earlier in his career even sold planes for Warren Buffett. Today he’s building Stretch, an AI-powered grocery platform designed to help families find the cheapest groceries in real time and navigate rising food costs.

But this conversation goes far beyond groceries.

We talk about the rise of AI agents, the responsibility of tech founders, and whether artificial intelligence will empower consumers… or slowly begin making more decisions for us.

This is a thoughtful conversation about entrepreneurship, technology, and the future we’re building.

Because the biggest question may not be what AI can do — but who it ultimately serves.

What We Discuss

• What Andy learned selling planes for Warren Buffett
• Building companies that were acquired by Facebook and Google
• Why groceries are one of the biggest financial pressures for families
• How the AI-powered grocery app Stretch works
• How Stretch actually makes money
• The rise of AI agents and what they could mean for everyday life
• Whether AI empowers consumers or risks replacing human decision-making
• The responsibility tech founders have in shaping the future

About Andy Ellwood

Andy Ellwood is the founder and CEO of Stretch, an AI-powered grocery platform helping families find lower prices and make smarter food-buying decisions.

A serial entrepreneur, Andy has built companies acquired by Facebook and Google and has spent his career creating technology designed to simplify complex problems. His philosophy of “Make Room For Many” shapes how he approaches innovation, leadership, and building products that empower everyday people.

This week’s episode is built entirely around listener questions — real tensions many of us are navigating right now.

We’re talking about three core challenges:

  1. How do you know when a disagreement is worth having — and when it’s just noise?
Not every argument deserves your energy. But avoiding all disagreement weakens you. We unpack how to discern the difference between meaningful engagement and emotional chaos.
  2. What does emotional discipline actually look like in the moment you’re triggered?
It’s easy to talk about self-control in theory. It’s much harder when someone says something that hits you in the chest. This episode breaks down what discipline looks like in real time — not perfection, but pause.
  3. Can you stay open-minded without losing your convictions?
Many people fear that “understanding” will slowly erode what they believe. We explore why understanding and compromise are not the same thing — and how strong convictions actually grow stronger when tested.

This conversation isn’t about being passive.
It’s about becoming strong enough to engage without collapsing.

You’ll walk away with:

  • A framework for deciding when to engage
  • Practical tools for emotional regulation in hard moments
  • A healthier definition of open-mindedness
  • Encouragement to sharpen your thinking without hardening your heart

Understanding does not equal agreement.
But discipline makes understanding possible.

If this episode resonates, send in your questions. These conversations shape the direction of the show.

I had an experience recently where someone immediately dismissed a perspective I shared — not with disagreement, but with disregard. The conversation didn’t end because we saw things differently. It ended because one side decided the other wasn’t worth engaging.

And it got me thinking.

In a culture that encourages us to block, label, and move on, have we confused emotional comfort with emotional maturity?

In this episode, we talk about:

  • The difference between disagreement and disregard
  • Why shutting people down is often a sign of insecurity, not strength
  • How social media and tribal thinking reward certainty over curiosity
  • The real grey areas — when disengagement may actually be wise
  • Why emotional discipline is becoming one of the most important skills of our time

This isn’t about platforming harmful ideas or tolerating abuse. Boundaries matter. But there’s a difference between protecting yourself and avoiding discomfort.

If we automatically disregard everyone who challenges us, we don’t just lose conversations — we lose the opportunity to sharpen our thinking, build resilience, and strengthen community.

Understanding does not equal agreement.

But understanding requires the willingness to stay in the room.

This episode is an invitation — to choose curiosity over ego, discipline over impulse, and conversation over dismissal.

If this episode resonates, consider sharing it with someone who values thoughtful conversation.

This week on Ficonomy, we break down three major economic stories shaping the current landscape — without hype, jargon, or political spin.

Here’s what’s happening:

  • Tariff revenue has surged more than 300% year over year.
  • The January jobs report beat expectations with stronger-than-expected job growth.
  • But deeper revisions show last year’s labor market may not have been as strong as initially reported.

So what does all of that actually mean for you?

📌 Story #1: Tariff Revenue Soars

The federal government is collecting significantly more money from tariffs — essentially taxes on imported goods. While this increases government revenue in the short term, tariffs often raise costs for businesses, which can eventually mean higher prices for consumers.

Why it matters:
Tariffs don’t just affect trade policy — they can impact prices on everyday goods, supply chains, and inflation trends.

📌 Story #2 & #3: January Jobs Report — The Headline vs. The Details

The economy added more jobs than expected in January, and the unemployment rate ticked slightly lower. On the surface, that sounds strong.

But there’s nuance:

  • Many gains were concentrated in healthcare and specific sectors.
  • Some industries showed weakness.
  • Prior data from 2025 was revised downward, meaning growth last year wasn’t as robust as first reported.

Why it matters:
A steady labor market supports consumer confidence and spending — but uneven growth tells us this economy isn’t booming across the board.

🧠 What To Do With This Information

Ficonomy isn’t about excitement — it’s about clarity.

Here are practical takeaways:

  • Watch prices: If tariffs remain elevated, expect some imported goods to gradually cost more.
  • Know your sector: If you’re job hunting or considering a career move, pay attention to where hiring is actually happening.
  • Don’t overreact to headlines: Economic data gets revised. One strong month doesn’t define a trend.
  • Think long-term: Steady job growth plus tariff pressure could influence inflation and interest rate decisions later this year.

The goal isn’t fear or hype.
It’s understanding.

When you understand what’s happening beneath the headlines, you can make better decisions — in your budget, your career, and your expectations.

That’s Ficonomy.

In a culture that increasingly avoids disagreement, this episode makes a simple but challenging case: some of the most important conversations are the ones we’re tempted to avoid.

Disagreeing with someone doesn’t make them your enemy — and choosing to talk doesn’t mean you’re compromising your values. In this episode, Kyle explores why engaging in thoughtful conversation with people who see the world differently is a sign of maturity, curiosity, and strength — not weakness.

At the same time, not every conversation is wise, safe, or productive. There are real limits, grey areas, and boundaries — especially when harm, bad faith, or dehumanization are involved. This episode wrestles honestly with those tensions.

You’ll hear:

  • Why avoiding disagreement often says more about us than the other person
  • The difference between understanding and agreement
  • When conversations across differences are worth having — and when they aren’t
  • How respectful disagreement builds emotional maturity and cultural trust
  • Practical ways to approach hard conversations without outrage or fear

This episode isn’t about winning arguments.
It’s about preserving our humanity in disagreement — and choosing curiosity over contempt.

Understanding does not equal agreement.
But it does require conversation.

If this episode resonates, consider sharing it with someone you disagree with — or someone you care about.

In this episode of Ficonomy, Kyle breaks down three major economic stories shaping everyday financial decisions — without jargon, panic, or political spin.

This episode focuses on what’s happening, why it matters, and what you can actually do today.

📉 Inflation: Why Prices Still Feel High

The latest inflation data (PCE — the Fed’s preferred measure) shows inflation has slowed but remains above the Federal Reserve’s target. This means borrowing costs are likely to stay elevated longer than many hoped.

What this means for you:
Money still doesn’t stretch as far, and interest rates on loans and credit cards aren’t coming down quickly.

What you can do now:

  • Review your budget with essentials in mind
  • Prioritize paying down high-interest debt
  • Avoid assuming rate cuts are coming soon

💳 Credit Card Interest Rate Cap — Promise or Politics?

A proposal to cap credit card interest rates at 10% has sparked headlines, but it’s not law and faces major hurdles. Even if passed, it could change how banks offer credit, rewards, and approvals.

What this means for you:
Waiting for policy changes to fix high-interest debt isn’t a strategy.

What you can do now:

  • Explore balance transfers or lower-interest options
  • Reduce revolving balances where possible
  • Understand your APR and payment structure

👨‍💼 Jobs Report: Slower Growth, Steady Employment

The latest jobs report shows slower job growth, even though unemployment remains low. This signals a cooling labor market, not a collapsing one.

What this means for you:
Wage growth may slow, and job mobility may feel tighter.

What you can do now:

  • Focus on skill development and career stability
  • Build or reinforce an emergency fund
  • Avoid overextending financially based on job optimism

🧠 Why This Episode Matters

Economic headlines affect how we borrow, save, and plan — even if we don’t follow markets daily. Ficonomy exists to make these moments understandable and actionable.

After sitting with the discussion on paid protesting, ethics, and influence, Kyle breaks down what challenged him, what surprised him, and what questions still don’t have easy answers.

This episode isn’t about conclusions, it’s about processing, nuance, and learning how to hold complicated ideas without shutting down conversation.

What This Episode Covers:

  • What I didn’t expect going into the conversation
  • Moments that challenged my own assumptions about protesting and influence
  • The moral gray areas of paid demonstrations
  • Where free speech, money, and power begin to blur
  • Why discomfort doesn’t mean a conversation shouldn’t happen
  • What I’m still wrestling with after the interview

Kyle Talks with Adam Swart, CEO of Crowds on Demand

In this episode of Kyle Talks, I sit down with Adam Swart, the founder and CEO of Crowds on Demand, a company that organizes and manages demonstrations, rallies, and public advocacy campaigns.

This is a conversation I went into without a fixed conclusion — and that’s intentional.

Adam’s work exists at the intersection of belief, optics, influence, and ethics. Some people see it as strategic messaging. Others see it as manipulation. Rather than tell you what to think, this episode is about slowing down and actually talking through the discomfort.

In this conversation, we explore:

• How modern protests and public movements are organized
• The difference between organic expression and coordinated messaging
• Why being paid to advocate feels morally complicated to many people
• Where Adam personally draws ethical lines in his work
• Whether compensation invalidates belief or participation
• How media optics shape what the public perceives as “authentic”
• What this industry reveals about human motivation and persuasion
• How listeners can stay curious without becoming cynical

This episode isn’t about defending or condemning an industry.
It’s about understanding how influence works and what it means for all of us trying to navigate public conversations honestly.

If you’ve ever found yourself unsure how to feel about modern activism, messaging, or protest culture — this conversation is for you.

About the Guest

Adam Swart is the founder and CEO of Crowds on Demand, a firm that specializes in organizing advocacy campaigns, demonstrations, and public engagement efforts across a wide range of issues.

His work has been featured by major media outlets, and he brings firsthand insight into how modern public movements are built, funded, and presented to the world.

Why This Episode Matters

Kyle Talks exists to bring back the art of conversation — especially around topics that are uncomfortable, polarizing, or misunderstood.

This episode asks a simple but difficult question:

If a message is true, but engineered, does it change how you feel about it?

If this conversation challenged you, intrigued you, or made you pause — that’s the point.

Let’s talk.

This is the first episode of 2026 — and it sets the tone for everything that comes next.

In this solo episode of Kyle Talks, Kyle lays out a simple but ambitious goal for the year ahead: bring back the art of conversation.

Not perfect conversations.
Not easy conversations.
Real conversations.

Whether your goal this year is personal growth, rebuilding confidence, learning discipline, or simply connecting better with people around you, this episode is an invitation to step forward — together.

In this episode, Kyle reflects on:

• Why goals mean nothing without action
• How having better conversations is a form of discipline
• Why understanding does not require agreement
• The role of emotion in disagreement — and how to handle it
• When it’s healthy to walk away from a conversation
• Why casual conversations matter just as much as serious ones
• How self-control changes the tone of dialogue
• What it means to listen in a culture that rewards shouting
• Why Kyle Talks exists — and where it’s headed in 2026

This episode isn’t about being right.
It’s about being present, curious, and human.

Kyle challenges listeners to take responsibility for the conversations they’re part of — at home, online, at work, and in the world — and reminds us that changing culture doesn’t start with institutions. It starts with people choosing to talk.

A question for listeners:

What’s one conversation you’ve been avoiding — and what would it look like to approach it with honesty and self-control?

The Mission for 2026

Kyle Talks is about talking to people again.
Agreeing. Disagreeing. Laughing. Listening.
Building connection without dehumanization.

This year is about showing up imperfectly and continuing anyway.

If this episode resonated with you, consider leaving a review or sharing it with someone you’d like to have a better conversation with. Invite them to the table.

Let’s talk.

What happens when conviction meets compensation?

In this episode of Kyle Talks, Kyle sits with a question that doesn’t have an easy answer. Is it wrong to be paid to spread a message if you genuinely believe in it? And why does the idea make so many of us uncomfortable?

Rather than taking a side, this episode explores the gray space between belief, influence, transparency, and trust. From lobbying and brand partnerships to political messaging and online influence, Kyle examines why money attached to belief feels different than money attached to work and why that discomfort matters.

This is not an episode about outrage or exposure. It’s about curiosity, ethics, and learning how to think more carefully about the messages we consume and the people who deliver them.

In this episode, Kyle explores:

  • Why being paid to advocate feels different than being paid to work
  • How belief becomes personal, emotional, and tied to identity
  • The difference between paid messaging and paid belief
  • Whether transparency changes how we perceive influence
  • Where persuasion ends and manipulation begins
  • Why discomfort can be a sign that a conversation is worth having

Kyle doesn’t offer a clean conclusion. Instead, he invites listeners into the uncertainty and asks them to wrestle with the question alongside him.

In today’s episode, we’re pulling back the curtain on something we all feel but rarely talk about:

Why does so much of what we see online — protests, trends, “viral” moments, political messages — feel engineered?

And more importantly…
Where’s the line between honest persuasion and outright manipulation?

Kyle breaks down the gray area between influence and orchestration, exploring questions like:

What we cover in this episode:

  • Why most public messaging (left, right, corporate, activist) is coordinated
  • How “organic” viral moments often aren’t organic at all
  • The blurry boundary between influence, strategy, and manipulation
  • How social media algorithms amplify emotion — not truth
  • Why transparency matters more than ever
  • The ethics of engineering a message, even if the message itself is true
  • How orchestrated narratives shape our culture without us realizing it

Kyle also shares:

  • Research on political communication
  • Studies on influencer persuasion
  • Data on media trust and social media virality
  • Real examples of modern messaging tactics (without naming groups or pointing fingers)

The big question we leave you with:

“If a message is true… but engineered… does it change how you feel about it?”

This episode is all about curiosity, not conclusions — and invites listeners to think deeply about the media ecosystem we live in, and how it shapes what we believe.

In today’s episode, we’re jumping into three real listener questions and each one hits a core part of what this podcast is all about: conversation, courage, and growth.

We talk about:

“Do people actually change their minds?”

I break down why yes, minds can change but not through debate, dunking, or proving someone wrong. Minds change through relationship, respect, and the slow work of understanding.

“Why am I so scared to share what I really think?”

We go deep into the fear of judgment and how cancel-culture thinking makes honest conversation feel dangerous. I share practical steps to speak with courage while still protecting your peace.

“How do I rebuild after a massive failure?”

This one gets personal. We talk about confidence after collapse, the difference between shame and reflection, and what starting over actually looks like financially and emotionally.

Why this episode matters

Because these questions are the everyday struggles that shape how we treat people, how we talk to each other, and how we grow. If you’ve ever wanted better conversations, less fear, or a clearer path forward after messing up this episode is for you.

Listen if you want to learn:

  • How to talk to people you disagree with
  • How to be honest without being terrified
  • How to rebuild your confidence after failure
  • Why human conversation still matters in 2025
  • What real emotional maturity looks like

This week, I’m doing something different.

After my conversation with Doug Kaplan pollster, public perception expert, and someone who’s spent years studying how Americans think. I walked away with more than just answers. I walked away with perspective.

In today’s episode, I’m unpacking the biggest lessons I took from our conversation:

• Why people often believe what they feel, not what they know

and how that shapes everything from politics to everyday disagreements.

• The real reason it’s so hard to change someone’s mind

(and why evidence alone almost never does it).

• How to talk to people you disagree with—without losing yourself

Doug gave me one line that genuinely shifted how I see conflict and communication.

• Why conversations matter now more than ever

and what our dialogue actually says about us as a society.

• The hopeful part

Yes, there is something hopeful here. And Doug gave me a new way to look at the future of human conversation.

This is a personal, reflective episode, more focused on the “conversation beneath the conversation.”
My goal? To make sure every listener walks away with something they can actually use in their own life.

If you heard the interview, this will deepen it.
If you didn’t, this will give you the heart of it.

Either way, I hope it encourages you to talk with people, not at them.

In this episode of Kyle Talks, I sit down with Doug Kaplan, founder of Kaplan Strategies and a veteran public opinion pollster, to dive deep into what really drives people’s beliefs — and how we can talk to one another more thoughtfully. We explore the tension between data and lived experience, what it takes to persuade without dehumanizing, and why understanding public perception matters in every part of our lives.

Doug shares lessons from his career in polling thousands of campaigns, explains how he separates meaningful signals from public noise, and walks us through his perspective on the power of respectful dialogue — even when we strongly disagree.

Key Themes / Talking Points:

In this Ficonomy episode of Kyle Talks, we break down what’s really going on with SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) during the government shutdown — no politics, no yelling, just facts and practical advice.

We explain what SNAP is, why the government shutdown affects it, how much funding is actually available, and what that means for your grocery budget. Whether you receive SNAP yourself, know someone who does, or just want to understand how federal programs touch everyday lives, this episode helps you cut through the noise and plan smart.

In This Episode

  1. What SNAP Actually Is — A simple explanation of how it works, who it serves, and why it matters to 42 million Americans.
  2. How the Shutdown Disrupts It — Understanding how federal funding pauses ripple down to your grocery card.
  3. What’s Happening Right Now — We break down reporting from:
    • NPR: SNAP food benefits and the government shutdown
    • CBS News: SNAP benefits cut to 65% amid shutdown
    • News-Press (Florida): Partial SNAP benefits during November shutdown
  4. What This Means for You — Possible benefit delays, partial payments, and what to expect in your state.
  5. Practical Money Moves — Tips for stretching groceries, checking your EBT balance early, and finding local support while waiting for updates.
  6. How to Stay Ahead — Tracking updates from USDA and your state’s SNAP site, plus listener questions for next week’s follow-up.

Key Takeaways

  • Many households could see 65% of their usual benefit this month due to funding shortfalls.
  • The USDA is using a $4.6 billion contingency fund, but full coverage needs ~$9 billion monthly — so shortfalls are real.
  • Delays are likely; check your EBT balance early and plan conservatively.
  • Local food banks and state aid can help bridge short-term gaps.
  • This situation is temporary — plan for the dip, not the disaster.

Episode Summary

This week, Kyle dives into three powerful listener questions that hit at the heart of modern communication:

  • Has social media destroyed our ability to have real, respectful dialogue?
  • How can we stand firm in what we believe without being labeled “close-minded”?
  • And how do we keep seeing the person before their opinion when things get tense?

In a culture that rewards outrage over understanding, Kyle unpacks how we got here — and how we can start turning things around, one conversation at a time.

This episode isn’t about picking sides. It’s about reclaiming how we talk, why we listen, and what it means to disagree with integrity.

In This Episode

  • Social Media & The Death of Dialogue: Is the algorithm designed to divide us?
  • Conviction vs. Close-Mindedness: How to stand strong without shutting down.
  • Seeing People, Not Profiles: Why empathy is your greatest tool in hard conversations.
  • Practical Tools: Real techniques for de-escalating, listening, and responding without anger.
  • Why We Still Have Hope: How podcasts, communities, and honest voices are rebuilding trust — conversation by conversation.

Key Takeaways

  • You can disagree fiercely without disrespecting someone.
  • The algorithm isn’t evil — but we have to use it intentionally.
  • Listening doesn’t mean surrendering your beliefs — it means strengthening them.
  • Seeing people as more than their opinions changes every conversation.
  • Real dialogue is the most radical act in a divided culture.

This week on Ficonomy, we cut through the noise around three major economic stories shaping your spending in 2025. Tariffs are costing companies $1.2 trillion — and most of that is ending up in your grocery cart, your tech gadgets, and your bills. The Fed’s latest Beige Book confirms that prices are rising and consumers are already feeling the squeeze. And just as inflation reports hit the news, experts are warning that the data might not tell the full story.

We’ll unpack what all of this really means for you — in plain language — and share practical tools to help you protect your wallet, budget smarter, and stay ahead of rising prices.

What You’ll Learn in This Episode

  • Why tariffs are quietly driving prices up across industries
  • How companies pass extra costs to consumers (and when you’ll feel it)
  • What the Fed’s Beige Book reveals about real-world inflation pressure
  • Why inflation data might be misleading — and how to track your own “personal inflation”
  • Actionable tips: building a spending buffer, buying smart, and budgeting for cost spikes

Articles Discussed

  1. CNBC: Tariff costs to companies this year to hit $1.2 trillion, with consumers taking most of the hit, S&P says
    https://www.cnbc.com/2025/10/16/tariff-costs-to-companies-this-year-to-hit-1point2-trillion-with-consumers-taking-most-of-the-hit-sp-says.html
  2. CNBC: Tariffs are pushing prices higher and consumers are feeling the hit, Fed’s Beige Book shows
    https://www.cnbc.com/2025/10/15/tariffs-are-pushing-prices-higher-and-consumers-are-feeling-the-hit-feds-beige-book-shows.html
  3. CNBC: This week’s critical inflation report comes with doubts about the data
    https://www.cnbc.com/2025/10/21/this-weeks-critical-inflation-report-comes-with-doubts-about-the-data.html

Practical Takeaways

  • Plan Ahead: Expect gradual price increases through the holidays — and budget accordingly.
  • Track Your Spending: Watch imported goods and categories like groceries, electronics, and apparel.
  • Question the Numbers: Official inflation might understate what you’re actually experiencing.
  • Act, Don’t React: Build a small “price-shock fund” and explore alternatives or substitutions before costs rise further.

In this powerful episode, we grapple with the assassination of Charlie Kirk and what it means for our culture. Whether you agreed with Kirk or not, his death is a reminder of how far division and dehumanization have taken us as a culture.

Our podcast has always been about one simple idea: we need to talk to each other again. Disagreement doesn’t have to mean disrespect, and curiosity about another person’s story is often the first step toward real understanding. But in a moment when violence has replaced dialogue, that mission feels more urgent than ever.

We explore:

  • Why political violence signals a dangerous turning point for our democracy.
  • How polarization and echo chambers push us away from dialogue.
  • What we lose as a society when we stop listening to one another.
  • Practical ways to rebuild a culture of conversation—starting in our own families, communities, and circles.

This is not a time for silence or retreat. It’s a time for courage, listening, and choosing connection over cancellation, conversation over violence.

👉 If you’re ready to imagine a culture where disagreement doesn’t end in outrage—or tragedy—this episode is for you.
