On today’s podcast I had Raiders’ quarterback Derek Carr on. Let me tell you, this podcast was probably the deepest podcast I’ve had about faith, family, and life. For those of you that don’t know, Derek is a devout Christian, and I actually had the pleasure of hearing him speak at my church last Sunday. Him and I are going to do some other stuff with a big conference he’s holding. It’s really cool to see how he’s impacting so many others beyond just his football career. Even along those lines, we talked about what it’s like being a quarterback for the team in Las Vegas, the turmoil The Raiders went though last year with having the coach fired, among other things going on, his career the past nine years with the team, and how through all the ups and downs he has remained consistent and has continued to grow. It was a really great podcast! If you are Christian or a non-Christian, I think you will get a lot of value out of this because there are so many things in today’s episode that can help improve your life!

Today I had none other than Derek Carr on! He’s The Raider’s Quarterback and is very busy lately.
The Raiders had a very tough year last year, so I asked Derek Carr about how he lead successfully through adversity. Their coach was fired, their president left, some team members were out, and other things occurred making it a very tough year for the team! While the team didn’t accomplish their ultimate goal of winning the Super Bowl, the team accomplished quite a lot!
Derek Carr is very religious and is very open to speaking about it! I’d seen a few of his videos and was impressed. I ran into him on the golf course when one of my flights was delayed, and met him for the first time. And now, here we are!
Derek Carr gave a sermon at my Christ last week and spoke about his unwavering faith. His faith is the most important thing to him and was raised heavily involved in the church. Derek speaks about how his faith really became his own when he went to college and was living life more on his own.
Derek Carr and I discuss how parenting has changed our mindsets and how being good fathers is vital. We both make the effort to spend time with our kids after work no matter how tired we are. While having busy careers is great and we spend time following our callings, being present as a father is most important.
