We are on a journey of discovery with the worlds most successful and fulfilled people. They share the most important learning and educational moments that shaped their lives while living with a sense of purpose, meaning and significance. We take the focus away from grades and test scores to an understanding of what real learning is all about so the next generation can feel empowered to live the life they want to live.
I have decided to bring my 'podcast network' to an end. Following lots of thought I believe the best way to support you and me moving forward is to simplify what I produce and bring everything together under one roof - Education on Fire. I am amalgamating this Learning on Fire podcast and Education on Fire podcast. I will continue to produce the same quality interviews and mix it with child focused educational content to help you support the children in your lives to be authentic, inspired and live life on their terms. This includes creating a new community of people to lead the way as part of our campfire elders. Dr. Martha Saunders joins me on the Learning on Fire podcast and explores the most important learning and educational moments that shaped her life. Dr. Martha Saunders is the sixth President of the University of West Florida. In her 30+ years in higher education, she has served in academic and leadership roles at universities in Florida, Georgia, Wisconsin and Mississippi. Her area of academic expertise is in public relations and crisis communication, for which she has won numerous awards. Dr. Saunders established the UWF Innovation Institute, the Center for Research and Economic Opportunity, University College, Center for Cybersecurity and the Office of Equity, Diversity and International Programming. She oversaw the reorganization of the University’s colleges, and under her guidance, UWF established two new colleges—the Usha Kundu College of Health and the Hal Marcus College of Science and Engineering. Saunders’ vision for UWF is for it to grow beyond its beginnings as a regional comprehensive university and be seen as a leader in innovation and cutting edge academic programs. She plans to build on the University’s strengths and its undergraduate traditions, while creating programs that will attract the faculty and research funding needed to make the leap to the next level. As an entrepreneurial leader, Saunders is passionate about creating innovative solutions to deal with the dynamic challenges facing higher education. David Miller is Director of the Innovation School at Kelvinside Academy. David has had a long career in education and in 2008 was the recipient of the Guardian Award for UK Teacher of the Year. In the same year, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts and made a National Teaching Fellow of the UK Teaching Awards.
Since 2008, David has been a consultant with BBC Learning and a Judge for the UK Teaching Awards, the Scottish Education Awards, for the Institute of Ideas – Debating Matters. David is a Visiting Fellow on the Masters in Teaching and Learning for Edgehill University, and a Visiting Tutor to postgraduate students of Glasgow University’s Faculty of Education.
David has been a Lead Researcher on an EU Lifelong Learning Programme looking at Digital Storytelling and the use of emerging technologies in the English Classroom.
In 2012, David was head-hunted to act as Chief Learning Architect for a Kuato Studios, building educational games that utilised next generation Artificial Intelligence. The games went on to win a number of international accolades, including a special mention at President Obama’s final Science Fair in 2016.
In, 2018, David became Director of the Innovation School at Kelvinside – a unique partnership with NuVu in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Educator After receiving her degree in Elementary Education from the University of Maine at Farmington (cum laude), Janet Allison began her teaching career in a Waldorf School with a class of 10 boys and 2 girls. She quickly realized she had NOT been prepared for the differences in the way boys learn and the way girls learn. Through trial and error, extensive reading and research, and sheer determination, Janet was at last able to understand those parts of her boys that were hard-wired (and therefore unchangeable) and the things that she could change – by making lessons more active and interactive and providing plenty of outside time and movement in the classroom. With her many years of classroom experience, she is able to ‘talk the talk’ with teachers in both public and private schools – including those following Waldorf and Montessori principles.
Coach Concurrently, she did extensive training in communication skills and life coaching (Neuro-Linguistic Programming – NLP) and began to hear from parents and other teachers about how much they were struggling with “boy energy.” From there she created The Language of Parentingcurriculum which soon after evolved into the Boys Alive! program. I am a Philadelphia resident and small business owner. In 2014, I opened Trapezium Math Club® – an after-school math program that serves students in grades k-5 in the Philadelphia area. I completed my PhD at the University of Pennsylvania and wrote a dissertation on Understanding the Numerical Reasoning of Middle School Students. My experiences interviewing children all over the country about their understanding of basic math concepts led me to develop math materials that are both engaging and confidence-building for young children. Jim Harte is Physical Education Teacher at Cypress Woods Elementary School in Palm Harbor, FL. He is also the Academy Director and TOPS Soccer Director for West Florida Flames Eastlake soccer club. Jim founded, owns, and runs Jim Harte’s Marauder Soccer Camp – a summer soccer school in operation since 1981.
Jim has over 37 years coaching and teaching experience. His programs have been recognized for Creativity and Innovation in PE and Recess. Jim has held a Florida teaching certificate for over 35 years. He has taught in both public and private schools. Physical Education programs created by Jim have won three international character-development awards: 2009 – “The Clipboard and The List” 2010 – “The Student-led 10-minute Talk” 2011 – “The Alliance”
In 2010 Jim was featured as a speaker at the Character Education Partnership International Character Forum in San Francisco, CA. Jim has won several “Teacher of the Year” awards.
Soccer Coaching In July, 2018 the Tampa Bay Times named Jim one of the top 50 coaches in Tampa Bay history – all sports, all levels – professional, collegiate, scholastic. Jim was selected #19. Jim has recently completed a 36-year high school coaching career. He holds several FHSAA coaching records including most state championships (6), best coaching record in Final Four games (15-5), and most games coached (913). His career coaching record is 554-259-100 (Wins-Losses-Draws) Numerous young people have been helped into college, pro, and international playing careers by Harte. He has also mentored many players that now have established coaching and teaching careers. He is a member of the Clearwater Central Catholic High School Hall of Fame. Jim is Founder and President of Marauder Soccer Camp, Inc – founded in 1981. Over 10,000 young players have attended Marauder Soccer Camp over the years. Many of them have gone on to work for the camp in leadership roles. After moving into professional life many of them return to mentor future coaches on the staff. Jim has been a fixture on the Tampa Bay youth soccer scene for almost four decades. He currently works for the West Florida Flames Eastlake Soccer Club in the capacities of Academy Director and TOPS soccer Director. Prior to Flames Jim spent almost 20 years in leadership roles in several other local soccer clubs. Jim was on the Florida Youth Soccer Association Olympic Development Program Coaching staff for many years including serving as state team head coach as well as instructor for state F, E, and D License courses. Jim served as Assistant Coach at Eckerd College for three years (1985-87). Training and Philosophy Jim earned a BS in Physical Education in 1980 from Quincy University in Quincy, IL. Over the years he has obtained numerous coaching licenses including USSF A and NSCAA Advanced National Diploma as well as a KNVB coaching certificate obtained in Holland. Further training includes the FranklinCovey Seven Habits signature training as well as Character Education Partnership “11 Principles of a School of Character” training. This combination of soccer, education, character training and experience makes Jim unique. Jim’s personal coaching and teaching philosophy is to develop the whole individual with a special emphasis on sound fundamentals and a principled foundation. Vondale Singleton joins me on the Learning on Fire podcast and explores the most important learning and educational moments that shaped his life.

Vondale Eugene Singleton Sr. was born on the Southside of Chicago. After overcoming the death of his mother due to crack-cocaine, an incarcerated father throughout high-school, and the negative influences of the Ida B. Wells Housing projects he beat the odds becoming a first-generation college student earning his Bachelors of Science Degree in Elementary Education and his Master’s Degree in Marital and Family Therapy from Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, OK. He credits his mentor, Steven Robertson as the person who invested sacrificially his time and resources to help him become the man he is today.
The last 16 years he has worked as an advocate in primary, secondary, and higher education, as both a teacher and administrator. He believes that “salvation plus education is an unbeatable combination.” He started C.H.A.M.P.S. for young men in an effort to mentor young men with similar circumstances. He helped organize the Award Winning Music Video at the White House Film Festival, which landed the C.H.A.M.P.S. a visit to the White House with President Obama.
Vondale has won numerous awards and received many recognitions for his work with C.H.A.M.P.S. He was recently named the “Father of the Year” for the State of Illinois by the Illinois Fatherhood Initiative, a Walmart Community Playmaker through the coveted Chicago Blackhawks as well aa MLK Community Champion. He is married to his College sweetheart, Dr. Patrina Singleton. They reside in Chicago, Il with their two beautiful children, Promise Singleton (9), and Vondale E. Singleton, Jr, (4).

I love teaching and have been at it my whole life. I can remember being a young girl teaching the neighborhood kids, my stuffed animals, and even my dog, Almond, if she would sit long enough.
Encouraging children and helping them succeed is a passion of mine. I am very proud of creating curriculum and lesson plans that reach that goal. I love helping teachers also achieve their goals. I believe in being a lifelong learner and am currently working on an even greater understanding of teaching and learning, iPads, engaging learners, marketing, and balancing life.
I am always looking for new ways to help teachers reach their goals. As of late, I have become aware of some great new tools on the horizon bringing educational reform and I am excited to be in education during these times!

There’s no instruction book for how to help your child navigate school. That’s the opposite of what education should do, and the sooner you get tools, the better.

Paul Andrew Philbert was born in London. It was as a singer that his musical abilities were first noticed, and on the advice of his preparatory school music teacher he auditioned for the Purcell School, a specialist music school, where over the course of seven years, he studied piano, violin, clarinet and, albeit briefly, trumpet and trombone. At the age of 15, having never really settled with any of these instruments, he took up timpani and percussion. He has never looked back.
He continued his studies with John Chimes & Kevin Nutty (both BBC Symphony Orchestra principal players) at Trinity College of Music, London, taking a one year break to assume the responsibility of President of the Colleges’ Students’ Union. Having completed his postgraduate studies he began working as a freelance musician in the UK and abroad. He has performed with many professional orchestras including the BBC Philharmonic, the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, the Philharmonia, the Hallé, BBC Symphony, Royal Philharmonic, Bournemouth Symphony, Birmingham Royal Ballet, English Chamber and Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, to name but a few.
Music has taken him to the USA, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Spain, Italy, Norway, Bulgaria and New Zealand before he accepted the position of Section Principal Timpani with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) in Kuala Lumpur. Since then he has toured Singapore, Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, Australia, Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia with the MPO.
Since his departure from the MPO in the latter half of 2012, Paul has continued to perform in both Asia, and Europe, and toured the USA, and South America. He was Principal Timpanist with the Orchestra of Opera North UK and is now the new Section Principal Timpanist with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
