The first episode of the new year! In this week’s episode we cov­er the protest on Jan­u­ary 9 at the Portage and Main inter­sec­tion as an act of sol­i­dar­i­ty with the Wet’suwet’en land pro­tec­tors in British Colum­bia (1:31). We spoke with Mus­lim Stu­dent Asso­ci­a­tion exter­nal exec­u­tive Mohamed Sous­si in regards to UMSU exec­u­tives, includ­ing UMSU pres­i­dent Jakob Sander­son, lob­by­ing mem­bers of Par­lia­ment in ear­ly Decem­ber along with the Under­grad­u­ates of Cana­di­an Research-Inten­sive Uni­ver­si­ties (UCRU) on sev­er­al pri­or­i­ties, one of which, was to elim­i­nate the fed­er­al tuition tax cred­it (4:41). Uni­ver­si­ty of Win­nipeg asso­ciate pro­fes­sor Julie Nagam’s solo exhib­it, locat­ing the lit­tle heart­beats, is cur­rent­ly on dis­play at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Winnipeg’s Gallery 1C03 until Feb. 16, and we spoke with Julie to dis­cuss the exhib­it, includ­ing the inspi­ra­tion behind the dis­play and what it means to her (14:47). Final­ly, we spoke with U of M stu­dent Michelle Wuzinis­ki to dis­cuss her award-win­ning paper titled ​“Devel­op­ing a Geno­typ­ing Scheme for Myobac­teri­um abces­sus Com­plex Using Whole Genome Sequenc­ing Data.” (23:00).
