Most young children like to build sand castles when they are at the beach. Kids quickly learn that the easiest place to build a sand castle is closer to the water where the damp, smooth, hard-packed sand is easier to shape and form. It offers a better foundation and is easier to build upon.

Sometimes you might find the parents helping them, but more often, the parents are sitting back watching or reading a book.  I believe in part this is because adults do not like meaningless work.  Adults know that soon when the tide starts coming in, the water will destroy the castle.  Within hours, there will be no sign the castle ever existed.

Sometimes our lives can feel the same way, we wonder if it is all just sand castles awaiting destruction.  In this week’s PathLight program, Dr. T. D. Worthington reminds us that every task is an invitation to labor as God’s workmanship appointed to that very task—even if it all seems like meaningless sand castles on the shore.  We will be reminded that every task is an opportunity to leverage all we do for the glory of God (Colossians 3:17).
