This is day 269 of our journey.
Zechariah's prophecy ends with a look toward the coming Messiah. Many of the prophecies we will read today have direct and obvious connections to the things that we will see happen in the life of the Messiah. Zechariah tells of coming opposition, but ultimately he tells of the defeat of Israel's enemies. Not only will those enemies be defeated, but the survivors from among them will turn to serve the Lord!
Join me in Zechariah 9-14 and look forward to the coming Messiah!
Key verses:
Zechariah 9:9
Rejoice greatly, daughter of Zion! Shout, daughter of Jerusalem! Look! Your king is coming to you: he is legitimate and victorious, humble and riding on a donkey – on a young donkey, the foal of a female donkey.
Zechariah 10:12
Thus I will strengthen them by my power, and they will walk about in my name,” says the Lord.
Zechariah 11:17
Woe to the worthless shepherd who abandons the flock!May a sword fall on his arm and his right eye! May his arm wither completely away, and his right eye become completely blind!”
Zechariah 12:10
“I will pour out on the kingship of David and the population of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication so that they will look to me, the one they have pierced. They will lament for him as one laments for an only son, and there will be a bitter cry for him like the bitter cry for a firstborn.
Zechariah 13:9
Then I will bring the remaining third into the fire;I will refine them like silver is refined and will test them like gold is tested. They will call on my name and I will answer; I will say, ‘These are my people,’and they will say, ‘The Lord is my God.’”
Zechariah 14:16
Then all who survive from all the nations that came to attack Jerusalem will go up annually to worship the King, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, and to observe the Feast of Shelters.
