This is day 239 of our journey.

Today we are introduced to the prophet Ezekiel. Chapter 1 tells of the commissioning vision that Ezekiel received, displaying the glory of God. Chapters 2 & 3 call him specifically to give God's message to the exiles of Israel and Judah. Despite their suffering and the things that they have seen and experienced, the exiles are obstinate and will not listen to God's word. Ezekiel's life will not be easy. Chapter 4 gives the first of Ezekiel's object lessons for the people. Ezekiel is to spend 430 days laying in the dirt staring at a brick while cooking his food over burning cow manure. This is an image of the punishment Israel will receive for the failure to follow the commands of the Lord. Chapter 5 reiterates God's coming judgement on his people.

Join me in Ezekiel 1-5 for Ezekiel's commissioning vision.

The people to whom I am sending you are obstinate and hard-hearted, and you must say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says.’

And the Lord said, “This is how the people of Israel will eat their unclean food among the nations where I will banish them.”
