This is day 235 of our journey.
Today, Jeremiah continues to prophesy against the surrounding nations. Babylon will continue to destroy and subjugate the nations. None will be able to stand against her. These nations had looked on the destruction of Israel with joy, but the same thing will come to them, making room for Israel's eventual return. Then, Jeremiah's prophecy turns against Babylon. Babylon's power will be overcome, they will rule for just a little while, then God will bring judgement on them as well. Their land will be devastated and destroyed. God's people will be granted the right to return to their land where they will again seek the Lord.
Join me in Jeremiah 49-50 for the judgement on Babylon.
Key verses:
Jeremiah 49:4
Why do you brag about your great power? Your power is ebbing away, you rebellious people of Ammon, who trust in your riches and say, ‘Who would dare to attack us?’
Jeremiah 50:46
The people of the earth will quake when they hear Babylon has been captured. Her cries of anguish will be heard by the other nations.”
