This is day 229 of our journey.

Today's reading contains one of the best known verses in all the prophets: "'For I know what I have planned for you,' says the Lord. 'I have plans to prosper you and not to harm you. I have plans to give you a future filled with hope.'" What is often missing though is an understanding of the context. This verse is a message to the Jews in exile. It is accompanied with instructions to settle down and live in the land of Babylon. They will be there for 70 years! The message of this verse, both then and now, is that despite the hard times that surround us, we can trust that God is working out a greater plan.
