This is day 226 of our journey.

Jeremiah is sent to a potter's house to watch him work and to listen to God's message there. God is the potter, we are clay in his hands. Sometimes, the clay needs to be crushed and reworked in order to correct something that has gone wrong. Jeremiah then complains to God about the poor treatment he receives from those who hear his message. Jeremiah is constantly the target of people wanting to kill and silence him. He is thrown into prison. But Jeremiah's message is the truth. When Jeremiah wants to keep silent in order to protect himself from persecution, he can't. God's message is like fire in his bones, he MUST speak regardless of the consequences.

Jeremiah 18:6

“I, the Lord, say: ‘O nation of Israel, can I not deal with you as this potter deals with the clay? In my hands, you, O nation of Israel, are just like the clay in this potter’s hand.’

“The Lord of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel says, ‘I will soon bring on this city and all the towns surrounding it all the disaster I threatened to do to it. I will do so because they have stubbornly refused to pay any attention to what I have said!’”

Sometimes I think, “I will make no mention of his message. I will not speak as his messenger any more.” But then his message becomes like a fire locked up inside of me, burning in my heart and soul. I grow weary of trying to hold it in;I cannot contain it.

Jeremiah 21:9

Those who stay in this city will die in battle or of starvation or disease. Those who leave the city and surrender to the Babylonians who are besieging it will live. They will escape with their lives.
