However, Mayo said that his family is rooted in New England, and that he’s only known the Patriots since 2008, and it would take the perfect opportunity for him to leave. - Jerod Mayo and Steve Belichick are co-defensive coordinators. According to Matt Judon, Mayo runs defensive meetings, and Belichick calls defensive plays. Judon says it works for the Patriots, and he doesn’t blame the play calling for the Patriots blowout loss to the Buffalo Bills on Super Wildcard Weekend.
