On Voices and Views on KCMJ, Judith interviews Kekla Magoon, author of Light It Up.

Kekla Magoon is the author of over a dozen books for young readers, also writes non-fiction on historical topics, and is the winner of an NAACP Image Award, the John Steptoe New Talent Award, two Coretta Scott King Honors, The Walter Award Honor, and the In the Margins Award.

This book is the fictional story is of a girl hurrying home from school, but she never makes it home: An unarmed thirteen year-old is shot and killed by a policeman. The story is told in a series of vignettes from many individual's viewpoints, from witnesses, community, demonstrators and white supremacist counter-demonstrators.
