Episode: Back When I Was Older
Pub date: 2019-10-25
Notes from The Listener:
Mystifying documentary about "cases of the reincarnation type", in which children believe that they have memories from a past life. It’s quite creepy, listening to a young boy talking quite matter of factly about the things he used to do “when I was older”, and very distressing for parents who worry their child is experiencing a kind of psychosis. The central figure in this episode is a scientist who studies this phenomenon at a university department called the "Division of Perceptual Studies”. He tries to pin down exactly who these kids were in a previous life, as a way of helping them to live in the present
As a parent, what do you do when your four-year-old starts telling you about memories that can't possibly be his? Memories that he says are from a past life?
