Description:

There's a reason why I'm calling the fourth episode of my DJ podcast the Purple Room.

Again, it's tied to a literary project I have since finished during the quarantine period of the pandemic. The end of the night feel I, along with my girlfriend at the time, would have after a night of dancing at legendary NYC clubs like Save the Robots and The Limelight. We would keep the vibe of the night going in her room, where she had painted the walls purple.

It was in that Purple Room she had given me the name, Karma of Dove—taken from the 2nd chorus of Jack Kerouac's Mexico City Blues. The poem was something she'd read to me whenever I'd wake up screaming from PTSD fueled nightmares as a way to calm me.

This old friend, years later, encouraged me to start making music and taking pictures again. It was a way not to hide from life anymore and think of myself as more than a stay-at-home dad.

What the dead would give to have our problems—she's no longer around.

I have nothing but gratitude.

The sound in this DJ set is an expression of gratitude and a way of touching that feeling I had when, back in the day, I would lose myself in the music.

These DJ sets are part of an ongoing soundtrack I've been putting together during the quarantine. I hope to make it available as a companion piece once my book is published.
