STEVE TRAVOLTA
Steve Travolta is a New York City house music veteran with nearly 30 years experience spinning in some of the city’s most famous nightclubs such as Limelight, Roxy, Palladium, Tunnel, Club USA, Webster Hall, Pacha and Cielo to name a few. His signature vocal, deep house and tribal influenced sound emerged predominantly during the early 2000s at his notorious Loft Preservation Society parties that he created with fashion designer, Cesar Galindo, which took place in their home above the original Sound Factory on West 27th Street in Manhattan.
Steve has been profoundly influenced by music industry legends David Morales and the late Frankie Knuckles - the two collaborated often as Steve served as Knuckles’ opening DJ during his Better Days residency and Frankie was often paired up with Steve at his wildly popular Fresh Fruit parties at New York City’s Meatpacking District hot spot, Cielo.
His music knowledge is vast. Steve was assistant director of Judy Weinstein’s record pool For The Record, the largest and most popular of it’s time. He is an accomplished re-editor working on projects for Kings Of Tomorrow, C&C Music Factory, Sounds of Blackness, Cyndi Lauper and Alicia Keys. Steve has also collaborated as a music editor with such heavy weights as Danny Krivit, François K’s Wave Music Label and the UK’s Black Market Records.
Travolta has taken his NYC signature sound on the road spinning in Canada, Italy, Singapore, Germany, Greece and various other cities across the United States. Hailing from the heyday of New York City nightlife he is no stranger to spinning six hour plus sets. He is currently a monthly resident at Christina Visca’s celebrated party Birdcage at Le Bain at The Standard High Line, a featured guest of Ladyfag’s hit night Battle Hymn at Mission and also a repeat guest at Benny Soto and Danny Krivit’s 718 Sessions at Good Room.

Teaming up with Robert Rich - former manager of Haring’s Pop Shop - Taglialatella will fill its flagship location with Haring’s iconography. Bringing back memories of the iconic store to its many visitors, Reviving the Pop Shop will also introduce the magic and joy to a whole new generation of Keith Haring fans who were never able to experience the Pop Shop. Reviving the Pop Shop will feature a cachet of vintage items including clothing and jewelry, Haring’s art-themed merchandise such as stickers and post-cards, to actual wall fragments of the Pop Shop interior - famously painted from floor to ceiling by Haring himself. The gallery will also display its own version of the painted installation as an ode to the Pop Shop’s mesmerizing décor. “When I moved to NYC in 1985 I found a Keith Haring button on the subway platform and put it on my Jean Jacket. After that I began seeing Keith’s Art everywhere from the subways to the clothing on Madonna in her music videos. I photographed his street art all the time. I loved it. It was my dream job.” says Robert Rich, who ran the store from 1989 to 1992 before moving on to an illustrious career in high fashion, styling celebrities for Marc Jacobs. Keith’s imprint was never far or forgotten from Robert’s early years in New York, and with Reviving the Pop Shop today’s youth will be able to sample some of Haring’s original vision for his store. The gallery will also display a variety of original works from the artist, including paintings, limited edition prints, and rare chalk drawings from the New York City subway. The opening reception will feature a set by DJ Steve Travolta and hors d’ouvres by celebrity chef Alex Guarnaschelli of Food Network’s “Chopped”. Guarnaschelli grew up in New York in the 80’s and admired Haring’s chalk Subway Drawings as a kid: “I never get tired of seeing his art. I feel like a kid in a candy shop every time I see a new one. To my mind, he will live in forever for the joy he brings. Additionally, crack is still whack.” Guarnaschelli told Taglialatella. Once in a while i like to play a certain style of that NYC big room house sound. Battle Hymn on Pride Friday night at Flash Factory is the perfect party and venue to outlet the high energy house side of my personality as well as the chance to unleash some of the big room bombs. This set recalls some of those infamous nights at Palladium, Roxy, Limelight and Webster Hall

For those of you that weren't able to make it to the Love Heals! event at the Met last Friday. Special thank you to the museum for including me in the line up and extra special thanks to the uniquely diverse NYC crowd that made it so memorable.
This recording contains some noteworthy moments from the "Golden Age of New York City House Music" and brings back wonderful memories of the debauchery that often times extended well into Sunday afternoon on the 6th floor loft located @ 530-542 West 27th Street above Twilo.

This is the kind of house that I would spin in the early 90's during my residencies at Webster Hall, Limelight, Tunnel, Palladium and Club USA with shades of Frankie Knuckles (RIP) everlasting influence sprinkled on top.
It also reminds me of passing call girls crouching in between and behind parked cars (to hide from the cops) as I walked down West 27th Street in the steamy August twilight on my way to the Original Sound Factory. This style of music recalls an image, indelibly etched in my memory, of the Factory's gatekeeper Richard G. Grant sipping his coffee on that high chair at the door of the club and raising his eyebrow slightly at whatever contraption I happened to be laced up in that day. RIP and Happy Birthday Richard.

Recorded in the early 90's when quality house music was pumping out of every crack and crevasse of NYC from the East Village to the Westside, from Downtown up to The Heights, from Patricia Field on West 8th to David Barton Gym on 16th Street where I would run into to David Cole on the regular. It was the GOLDEN AGE of the NYC HOUSE SOUND and I feel like those of us who were fortunate enough to experience that particular moment in time, and are still here to remember it, are the last of the Mohicans.
