Frankfurt-based DJ and producer Kabuki has been one of Germany’s foremost drum and bass artists for over 20 years – but he’s not the type to get stuck in a rut. On the fourth volume of his 'Beat Excursions' EP series, Jan Hennig enlists a squad of diverse collaborators to pull him in different directions, from a hulking halftime cut with Berlin bass don Orson, to a frenetic floor workout with singer-producer Perera Elsewhere. But he’s still saved a moment all for himself: on ‘Teleplex’, Hennig clears a space, kicks off his shoes and gets into a deep and spacey shuffle on the EP’s only solo cut, as jungle breaks fall like fireworks over a landscape of sci-fi synths and dub echo.
