Sometimes, it’s the small tweaks that make a song. Russian producer Unbroken Dub began “Goodbye Montréal” during a solo session in the analog room, but he didn’t complete the track until Japan’s Sparrows (also a member of the band Crystal) lent a hand on the last day of the Academy. Together, they were able to find the perfect balance of floor-quaking 808s and vintage synth chords, accenting this slice of polished techno with the sound of 8-bit video games.
