“This is a mad one,” assures grime mainstay D Double E midway through “Dem Tings Dere,” a transmission from genre-bending British duo Riddim Commission’s forthcoming debut album, and he’s not wrong. But the line rings even more true on this remix by Nightwave, who eliminates the 4/4 bounce of the original and substitutes sparkling details to make for a more hyperactive journey.

Nightwave, an alumna of 2011 Red Bull Music Academy in Madrid, has been going from strength to strength in 2016, releasing records by Carpainter and Bossy Love on her own Heka Trax record label and planning to perform her first live show ever this coming September. Her party-starting bonafides are undeniable on this remix, which layers invigorating bursts of trilling synths and an occasional wordless vocal sample around D Double E’s repetitive boasts. Piledriving bass pressure builds throughout to an instrumental outro, but it’s a jackhammer working outside your window that you actually wouldn’t mind waking up to.

“Nightwave’s remix of “Dem Tings Dere” is out today on Bullet Train Records, with Riddim Commission’s We Aint Gonna Stop LP out October 7th.
