- for double digit numbers, there is a shortcut to make it easy.
- the first number of the answer is the first digit of the number you are multiplying by
- the last number of the answer is the second digit of the number you are multiplying by
- the middle number is the sum of the numbers you are multiplying by
- makes sense? I think an example will be helpful...

  • let's stay 11 x 14
  • the middle number is (1 + 4) or 5
  • the first number of the answer will be 1
  • the last number of the answer will be 4
  • so 11 x 14 = 154

  • one more example: 11 x 42

  • the middle number of the answer will be 6
  • the first number of the answer will be 4
  • the last number of the answer will be 2
  • so 11 x 42 = 462

  • it gets a little trickier when the the two numbers sum to be greater than 9, but it's just one additional step

  • say 11 x 67
  • 6 + 7 = 13, so the middle number will be 3 but you have to take the 1 and add it to the first number (this is like "carrying over" in normal additional)
  • so the first number will be 6 + 1 = 7
  • the last number will be 7
  • so 11 x 67 = 737”
