New infestations from the spruce beetle topped 136,000 acres this past year. The Gunnison Basin's landscape is splattered with the main source of food for the spruce beetle - Englemann Spruce.

The douglas-fir beetle continues to expand and damage new areas, while other invasive species have actually declined in the past few years.
