Jesus goes out of his way to lead his disciples into an extremely uncomfortable situation in order to drive home two foundational truths of faith. First, identity in Christ changes everything. Second, life in Christ is warfare. All of this is made possible for us through Jesus’ victory on the cross over sin, death and evil!

The Book of Daniel is about surviving and even thriving in a hostile environment. The key to thriving where it is hard is a consistent commitment to boldly living out your faith in Jesus Christ. The impact of this kind of example is life changing for you and for everyone around you!
It is so hard to watch someone who has every opportunity to succeed in life throw it all away. We often stand by powerless watching the train wreck happen. In today’s story we watch a young, self-centered king spiral down this path. It is too late to save him, but hopefully we can learn from his mistakes! May his poor example be a “Wake Up Call” for you and me!
Pride, seeking our own glory and pleasure, is the root of all other sins. Nothing separates from God faster and further than our own pride. How far will God go to break our pride and bring us back into relationship with Him?
God often delays the fulfillment of his promises to form our soul and position us to truly enjoy their fulfillment. As we wait, we must believe his promises, embrace the circumstances, and sustain our faith.
God is calling us to a Dangerous Faith. This kind of faith is very different than the comfortable faith found in many churches today. Our God is not only the God of the green pastures, He is also the God of the fiery furnace!
Last week we watched Daniel trust God and remain faithful through a very tough situation. This week it gets worse. In chapter 2 Daniel faces an impossible situation! Why does God ask us to face not only difficult situations, but literally “Impossible” situations in life? We begin a new series this weekend through the book of Daniel. Like Daniel centuries ago, we too live in a culture that is “Hell-bent” on molding us into its own image. How do we remain faithful and even make a difference in a culture that is openly antagonistic to our faith in Jesus Christ?
By looking at the bigger picture we can see God constantly pursuing a greater connection that brings new life to our world.
Everyone wants God to bless them, but not everyone gets blessed in the same way. Sure, we could say "that's just God's plan," but what if there was another piece to the puzzle? What if God's blessing was BOTH more mysterious AND more accessible than we think?

In life everyone learns to walk. Most, probably don't remember what that is like but remember what it is like to learn something new. In II John, the Apostle John is writing to a house church and through that teaches a lot about how to love as the church, with false teachers and what our response is in today's culture. We are going to walk through what it means "to walk". To walk in truth, walk in love and walk with discernment.

As Floridians, we have seen firsthand the destructive power of a strong storm. Nothing is left in its place after the storm has passed. What if some storms aren’t meant to destroy, but rather put things back into place. Even set people back on course? This week we are reading a story of how God used a storm to perfectly position Paul for ministry.
The situation looked grim. Herod had just killed James and Peter was in chains just hours away from the same fate. But God… sent an Angel to break him out of jail! This Breakout story ignited the early church to move out and expand faster than ever! God is still sending Angels and desires to break our chains today. When He does, we will see a Breakthrough today like we saw in the days of Peter!
It’s been said, “If you aim at nothing, you’ll hit it every time!” As followers of Jesus Christ, we believe God has a beautiful plan for our lives. This plan folds perfectly into His mission to redeem a lost world back to its Creator. In Acts 20, Paul is nearing the end of his ministry and life. He reminds us what it looks like to follow God’s Plan for our lives when he shares the Marks of a life well led.
Joppa was a major port city in Israel where a countless number of ships, passengers and cargo passed through towards their final destination. At crossroads like Joppa, a decision has to be made. Will you trust God to lead you on to new things and points “unknown”, or will you stick with what you already know and go back “home” where you feel safe?
Nobody like interruptions! We get into a groove at work or at home and suddenly something or someone breaks into our day and everything changes. But what if some interruptions aren’t interruptions at all? What if some interruptions don’t happen by accident? What if some interruptions are actually “Divine Appointments”?
How do you feel about change? We normally welcome the changes we initiate and avoid, complain about and fight against any change that is thrust upon us from the outside. What if God is the Initiator of change? How can we accept, even embrace, the change that God brings into our lives?
As we jump into the Book of Acts, we are introduced to the star of the show: The Holy Spirit. He is not new to God’s story. He has been working mostly behind the scenes since time began. In chapter 2 we see Him burst into the limelight and into the hearts of the new believers and the early church. From this point on, He will play a very personal and public role in the life of every believer.
Do you know that little button that pops up on the screen when you are streaming your favorite TV show? It is asking if you want to “Skip Recap.” It allows you to save a few seconds of viewing time and jump right into the action. It’s tempting to do hit that button with chapter 1 of the Book of Acts and jump right into the “Action” beginning in chapter 2, but if we did that, we would miss the powerful lessons that lay the foundation for understanding the next 27 chapters!
WORSHIP. It's a big topic, a powerful idea, and a concept that can be easily misunderstood. We often use the word "worship" to talk about music in church, but what if God's idea of worship is about MORE than having people sing him songs? What if worship is God's plan not to get more FROM us, but to give more TO us?
Much of Florida was in a drought (in the middle of our “wet season”!?) until Hurricane Idalia took care of that problem! What about you? Are you feeling spiritually dry, even though everything and everyone around you seems to be flourishing? Just as God provides pools of life-giving water to a dry valley in the desert, He also brings refreshing to your dry and weary soul if you are willing to “dig where He tells you."
August is a busy month! Families are getting adjusted to a new school schedule, college students are heading back to campus, and parents are realizing there's not many more vacation days left in the year. August is an exciting season of change and transitions. Moses had some great advice for the Israelites before they transitioned into the Promised Land: "Get Back to the Basics!"
What happens when you die? That is one of the most searched topics on Google. Believers and not-yet-believers alike all want to know the answer to this question. God’s Word gives us a great deal of detail right in the Book of 1 Thessalonians. These details are meant to strengthen our faith and give us encouragement in the face of great grief.
We all want to please our boss or those close to us by doing what they have asked us to do. The appreciation and gratitude that we receive after a job well done is what fuels the fire to keep striving. How do we know if we have “Pleased God?” What does it look like when we have met or even exceeded God’s expectations?
Each year nearly 5000 protestant churches close their doors. This trend continues to grow each year due, in large part, to the ever increasing pressures from our modern culture. The church Paul planted in Thessalonica experienced those same pressures (maybe worse??) and yet they did not quit. Today we look at our own faith and ask ourselves 5 questions that the Apostle Paul asked a church family that remained strong in the face of affliction.
It’s what’s on the inside that counts! Paul, the outwardly-focused Missionary Evangelist spends an entire chapter of the Book of 1 Thessalonians looking inwards at the characteristics of a healthy church. If we don’t get it right on the inside, we will never be effective reaching out to others. If we care well for our church family, we will be prepared and empowered to care well for those outside of our church family. This week we look at the biblical characteristics of a healthy church!
The church in Thessalonica was just one of the churches planted by Paul and his team on their second missionary journey. However, the results were different here than elsewhere. In spite of great persecution from the religious and city leaders, the young church flourished right from the start. What made this early church grow so rapidly and what can we learn from their resilience?
We are kicking off a new series that walks us through the book of 1 Thessalonians. The theme of standing firm in the face of trouble and persecution is just as applicable to us today as it was 2000 years ago. This week is the Prequel story. Before we jump into chapter 1, we are going to study the story of the founding of the Thessalonian church in the Book of Acts.

What do you buy a Dad who already has everything? Most Dads don’t need more in their lives, they need less. This week we are reading a story about a dad who almost lost everything because he thought he needed more. What he really needed was a lot less sin in his life. The gift of a “Clear Conscience" turned his life around!
What in the world is a “Spiritual Gift”?! Does the name imply that because it is “spiritual," it is not physical? We can’t really touch it or hold it? And if it is a “gift," does that mean it is ours to have and to hold and keep for ourselves? Join us this weekend as we discover how to unpack our Spiritual Gifts and use them as God intended!
Many Christians know the Holy Spirit was given at Pentecost. But what if there was MORE to the story than just a dramatic arrival? What if God's gift of the Holy Spirit wasn't the end of Jesus' work, but just the beginning?
It is the age old theological debate: Are we saved by our faith alone OR do we have to “earn” our salvation by works and good deeds? What if we have been aiming our lives at the wrong target? What would a life look like that is aimed at a Faith that Works?!
We set lofty goals, we shoot for the stars and we aim for greatness, but what if God wants us to aim lower? No, I’m not suggesting that God wants us to lower our expectations or think less of our own abilities. What if greatness in the Kingdom of Heaven is not based on power or position but rather on humble service? What are you aiming at?
What if the target you have been aiming at becomes a “Moving Target”? By God’s grace you have adjusted your life to aim at the target He has set before you when suddenly that target (relationship, job, ministry, retirement plan) vanishes! What do we do? What should our focus be?
“I’m just so tired!” Have you heard that lately? Have you said that lately? Today we are talking about the overwhelming tiredness many of us are feeling right now. If our lives are not aimed at the target God has set before us, we will continue to deplete our strength, our resources and our lives trying to hit the wrong Bullseye!
All of our lives we’ve been taught that if we work really hard and reach our goals, we will be happy - we will be satisfied… What if we’re not? Maybe we have been chasing after the wrong goal and trying to hit the wrong bullseye! Only when Christ is the focus of our lives, will we truly be satisfied.
Hearing God’s challenges and promises are one thing. Applying and obeying is another matter. This weekend we will have a conversation about what this messy journey looks like in real life.
Anxiety is defined as “Feelings of fear, dread, and uneasiness that may occur as a reaction to
stress.” Anxiety has always been a part of the human experience, but the anxiety our culture is
experiencing today as a whole may be at an all-time high. Incredibly, God has spoken to us today about
living life without anxiety and surrounded by His peace.
They say, “The exception proves the rule.” The miraculous resurrection of Jesus on that first Easter morning was definitely the Exception, but what is the rule? Guess what… God doesn’t have to follow the “rules!” He made the rules, so He can break them! Our God is the God of the Exception and He wants to do exceptional things in and through you today!
It’s Palm Sunday! That means the passion week is upon us and the Easter celebration is only a week away!! Is that all Palm Sunday is? Just a “place holder” holiday to signal Easter is coming? What really happened on that day and why is this day so important to our Christian faith? This week we dig into the power of Palm Sunday!
We all “need” some kind of a miracle. We cry out to God for Him to fix our bodies or our finances or our broken relationships. When God moves, it is powerful, but sometimes “our miracle” is just the beginning. God uses some miracles to detonate a much bigger explosion of His miracle power!
Have you ever stood before a seemingly impossible need and cried out to God for a miracle? Would it help you to know that even before you cried out to God, He was already working upstream on the very miracle you need???
Miracles are great! Who doesn’t need one? Or maybe even two! But is there more to a miracle than just a “quick fix” for our biggest problem? God begins John 9 with an incredible miracle and then spends nearly an entire chapter of the Bible telling us “the rest of the story."
You’ve heard it before; “where God guides, He provides.” But what if He doesn’t?? Sometimes it feels like you have been led straight into a dead end with no way out… That’s where God does some of His best work! He conquers the impossible and "makes all things possible."
There is a miracle that is at work in the everyday things that God has blessed you with. Today we will be talking through the miracle of God's provisions and the contentment that is to be found in them.

What is the deal with God and my money?! It seems like that is all we talk about in church!Well, you are not wrong. The Bible talks about our money and possessions over 2000 times. That is about 7 times more often than it talks about Love. God doesn’t do this because He is hung up on money, but because we are. This week we dive into this wonderfully awkward conversation about “our” money.
The more we become fully engaged followers of Jesus, the more we realize God’s too big for any box.

All Advent long we have been asking the question; “What’s your focus?” What is distracting you from the the True Focus of the Christmas Story? Is it your traditions and comfort like Zechariah? Is it the building and protection of your own kingdom like Herod? Or is it something more mundane like The Daily Grind like our Bible characters for today?
Different places and different families have different Christmas traditions. We get that. What about having a different focus at Christmas? This week we will look at the role King Herod played in the Christmas story. He knew what we know and even believed what we believe, but his focus was VERY different!
This Advent season we are all looking for hope, just like Simeon and Anna from the Christmas narrative in Luke 2. May we not miss a key component of these weeks—that Baby Jesus came as a messiah for the whole world, a world that still needs God’s love. You and I are God’s strategy to accomplish that vision.
The Advent Season is meant to turn our focus to the birth of Jesus Christ. These weeks should be filled with excited anticipation of His birthday. Unfortunately, there are many other attractions plying for our attention this month. What has stolen your heart? What is preventing you from focusing on Jesus on His own birthday?
The long way to the winner’s circle for a Dark Horse is full of stops and starts. Fear, insecurity, deep-rooted traditions all play a role in keeping them in the shadows longer than God intends. This week’s Dark Horse was held back by disobedience. In this story we can all learn a lesson about the destructive power of disobedience!
By now, we all know what a Dark Horse is. They start out in obscurity but wind up in the winner’s circle making an impact for the Kingdom of God. But what about those Dark Horses who remain dark? Those who never get out of the starting gates? How can we be sure that we hear God’s call when He it’s time to come out of the shadows?
We now understand what a Dark Horse is. They come out of nowhere and no one has ever heard of them. When they win the race, it is big news! What about Dark Horses that don’t win the race? In fact, just the opposite. Instead of making a big splash, they make a big mess! Ananias and Sapphira came out of obscurity and ran straight into infamy!
Synopsis: When a Dark Horse wins a race, it’s a really big surprise because nobody saw it coming! The same is true of Dark Horse characters in the Bible. We don’t expect much from those we know nothing about. Those who can’t demonstrate the right “pedigree” to perform at high levels. But God is never surprised. He chooses, grooms and cheers them on to victory.
A Dark Horse in the horse racing world means a horse that is unknown. There is not enough background information on it to be able to create the odds for betting. So when it comes from behind to win the race - no one saw it coming. There are many such characters in the Bible. We didn’t have enough background information to expect much from them, but God saw something in them. We may be surprised by their success, but God never is!
We live in an easily offended world. As the pressure of modern life increases, our ability to just let things roll off of our backs decreases. Our patience with each other is wearing thin. Today’s Bible story about a wise woman, an impulsive young man and an old fool help us learn 7n ways to survive in an easily offended world.
We have been studying God’s Word for weeks to prepare for Life in a Hurricane. What about Life After a Hurricane? Huge, life-altering experiences have a way of bringing clarity in our otherwise fast paced and chaotic lives. This week Jesus’ words from the Sermon on the Mount give us direction for this next phase of our lives.
An important part of storm preparation is packing a “Go Bag.” In it is stored what you need to take along if you have to leave your house suddenly in the face of a storm or flooding. It would be easy to carry and only contain the most important documents and valuables… What did you put in your bag? Documents…Valuables… Photos??? If you had to flee from a storm, which treasurers could you not live without?
Jesus commands us not to judge others, yet the Bible also says we are to “test everything and hold on to what is good.” So which is it? Join us this week as we dig into what Jesus said about judging others, judging ourselves and using good judgement.
Where do hurricanes come from? The easy answer is; “ Off the coast of Africa.” That is true, but some of our hurricanes begin much closer to home!Join us this week as we discover how God’s Word helps us defuse the storms of our own making before the destruction begins.
The key to surviving a hurricane is to have plenty of advanced warning. Before there was Doppler radar and the Weather Channel, ships and coastal towns used large flags to warn of approaching storms. In His mercy and grace, God has provided a system today to warn of impending eternal destruction. Every believer is to be a living, breathing “Hurricane Flag” warning of the coming storm and pointing towards “safe ground."
As we navigate the hurricanes of life with the guidance of the Sermon on the Mount, this week we focus on the “Beatitudes.” Jesus describes the Happy Ones or Blessed Ones as those who have bought into His way of life. The disciples that Jesus describes are not happy or blessed because of what they do but rather who they are and the attitudes they exhibit.
"Location, Location, Location” they say are the three most important factors in real estate. How about in life? Are you happy with your location? Where you live? Where you are in life? Or would you be happier somewhere else? If we are not happy where we are, does God change our circumstances? Or does He change us? Or maybe; both...
Circumstances can bring about great happiness or crushing pain and anxiety. But God is a source of Joy in every circumstance. As we worship Him, we find joy and show others how Worthy He is.
They say, “All’s well that ends well.” Is that really true? What if the road to a “Happy End” was fraught with so many difficulties and challenges that we come out differently than how we started? When God walks us through something, it is for a bigger purpose. His desire is not just to return all that was taken from us in the journey. He desires to strengthen us for bigger journeys ahead!
Our heroes have been backed into a corner. After all of their faithful service for the king and for their people, it looks like it won’t be enough to save the day… And then it happens! The most incredible turn of events takes place and justice is served. It’s almost as if someone had been "pulling the strings" all along!
Sailors will tell you, “It’s always darkest before the dawn.” That may be true out on the open ocean, but is that true in our lives as well? As we continue to walk through the story of Esther and Mordecai, we see them pushed further and further into a corner. Is this the end of the story, or is God orchestrating an epic turn of events? If God can do that for our heroes, can He do that in your life as well?
Freedom is not free. Our freedom as a nation was fought and paid for by the sacrifice and leadership of men and women who have come before us. Do we understand the opportunity this affords us? What about our freedom in Christ? Do we fully understand the spiritual freedom we have because of His sacrifice for us? What does it look like to live a truly Free life?
The first 2 chapters of Esther read like a fairytale. An orphaned jewish girl wins a beauty pageant, marries the king and moves into a palace! That was the easy part… now we begin the hard part. Now begins the battle against the forces of evil. The enemy is coming, and he is coming fast!
Mordecai didn’t get everything right. He wasn’t perfect, but because he led and cared for Esther well while she was in his home and even while she was in the palace of the king, she went on to save her entire people. We fathers are a lot like Mordecai. We don’t get everything right, but if we care for and lead our kids well, they can have a huge impact for the Lord later in their lives.
Ever since the writer of the Book of Esther asked the question, “Perhaps you were sent for such a time as this?”; believers have been wondering if they are going to miss an opportunity sent by God. How can you be sure that you won’t miss an open door that God created just for you? How can we live like Esther ( or Alexander Hamilton) and "not throw away our shot!"
Jesus said in the Gospel of John, “It is to your advantage that I go away so that the Helper will come to live in you.” How could anything be better than having Jesus Christ right here with us?! This week we discover the role of the Holy Spirit in our lives. When the power of God lives inside of us, it will change everything!
How do we respond to all that is happening in our world, our country and even in our families? Is there any hope? Is there a Christian response to the rapidly encroaching evil in our world? Jesus’ disciples found themselves in a similar situation 2000 years ago. Join us as we read His instructions to His followers in their time of desperation.
A leopard can’t change its spots… or can she? Is this a biblical teaching? An equally important question is: "How does a leopard change its spots?"
When we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior, we immediately enter a process of sanctification where God is constantly molding us into His image. In this process, God doesn’t wait for something to break so that He can fix it. He will “break” us in order to begin “fixing” us.
Well-meaning pastors and Bible teachers tell us that, “God can’t move a parked car,” when they want to motivate us to get busy for God. But is that true? Is there anything God can’t move? If God wants to move something/someone who has stopped moving forward, how does He do it? Find out this week as we celebrate two powerful women of the Bible for Mother’s Day.
Is ignorance really bliss? Does not knowing or not being aware of the evil around (or in us) really make us immune to its consequences? What does God’s Word say about our responsibility to know ourselves and our situation?
Why focus on the things Jesus didn’t say, when the things He did say are so important? Unfortunately, our pluralistic, all-inclusive culture is finding its way into our Christian culture. Non-biblical thoughts like, “God helps those who help themselves.” have found their way into our christian world view and into our churches. Bad theology that teaches self-reliance rather than complete reliance on God would weaken our faith and destroy our witness.
When something is empty, that is a bad thing. There is nothing good about empty gas tanks, empty bellies or empty promises! But when Jesus’ tomb was found to be empty, it was the Best News Ever!!! Join us this week as we discover how the news of the empty tomb can take away the emptiness we feel in our hearts.
On Palm Sunday we celebrate the triumphal entry of Christ into Jerusalem. It should have been the victorious culmination of three years of world changing ministry and teaching. Instead, it appeared that Jesus had somehow “snapped” under the pressure of the past and what was yet to come. He lashes out three times in ways that we have not yet seen. What was happening? Was it really the pressure? Was it really His human side showing through? Or was He using every last opportunity He had to teach His followers valuable lessons they would need after His Resurrection and return to His Father in Heaven?
The busyness of life never lets up! No matter how much we do, there is always more that has to get done. As we near the celebration of the Passion and glorious Resurrection of Christ, let’s turn our focus from what I DO for Jesus to who I AM in Christ.

As a country we understand that Freedom is not free. For nearly 250 years, brave men and women have fought and died to defend our country and the freedoms we enjoy. As a Christ Follower, we also know that our Freedom is not free. We must choose to be free. Jesus’ death on the cross enabled us to know and have true Freedom, but if we do not choose to walk in that Freedom, we are not truly Free. God’s Word shows us how to choose to be truly Free!
What’s so dangerous about a blessing? Blessings are good things! Why wouldn’t I want God to bless me every time I ask? Biblical Blessings are not intended for the receiver alone. God’s Blessings are intended to be a double blessing: First when we receive it and then when we share it with others!
If we truly pray for God to Lead Us, it means we must be willing to go and do and be what He commands. That is what makes this prayer so dangerous! When men, especially fathers pray this prayer, God responds with the command: “Lead!” God has uniquely gifted fathers to be the leaders of their families. For too long, we have forfeited that responsibility to others (or to nobody). Men, it is time that we respond to God’s command to be the leader He has equipped and commanded us to be!
If our goal is to be more like Christ, then we must emulate His life and sacrifice. He was “broken and poured out” for us on the cross. When we pray for God to “Break Us”, we become usable. In God’s economy, it is the broken thing that is most usable in His Kingdom. Not until we allow God to break us are we fully moldable in His hands. We are most like Christ when we are broken and poured out.
If we believe God really answers prayers, then we need to be careful what we ask. If we ask God to search our hearts, our minds and our lives, we must believe that He will be faithful to answer that prayer and do just that. That is what makes this prayer so dangerous!
Graduation Day is a rite of passage. We celebrate completing a major milestone of education as we anticipate the new challenges of the next phase of life. This week we learn how to best make that transition as we observe how Elijah passes from ministry to glory and Elisha passes from a secular life to the life of a prophet. And we ask the question: Are we ready to graduate?
