Market Decline: Cryptocurrency markets have cooled, experiencing a 15% drop over the last two months from a mid-March peak. Neutral Sentiment: Investor enthusiasm has shifted from euphoria to cautious neutrality due to recent market conditions. Economic Context: Bitcoin's price decline coincides with stronger US dollar and equities, indicating a possible decoupling from traditional assets. Central Banks' Influence: Global central banks, are leaning towards lower interest rates, which could impact all markets. Stable Funding Rates: Despite high digital asset prices, futures exchanges show low funding rates and little excess/leverage. Public Disengagement: Interest in altcoins and NFTs has waned among the general public, with large institutions now driving market demand. Bullish Scenario: Continued demand for Bitcoin ETFs could stabilize and potentially boost the market to new highs. Bearish Possibility: If the bull market ends, a prolonged bear phase could significantly reduce market activity and cause dev exodus. Seasonal Slowdown: "Sell in May and go away" potential for a quieter trading period during summer, although foundational market strength remains solid. Potential Rebound: Autumn 2024 may be key in determining if the market can rally to our dreams and expectations or if a long term bear trend will prevail. From the newsletter at: https://bachini.substack.com/p/when-will-the-dip-stop-dipping

Good morning, today we're exploring ChatGPT Plus. With so many of us using AI in our daily lives, I want to know if the premium version, costing $20 a month, is worth the upgrade from the free version? Let's dive in and find out.

ChatGPT plus provides access to the latest and most sophisticated language model, ChatGPT 4, which speaks multiple languages and delivers even more intelligent output than its predecessors. It's hard to quantify but there is a noticable improvement in the quality of outputs between the two models.

Subscribers also gain exclusive access to the DALL-E Image Generator. Describe any scene, and watch as DALL-E brings it to life. I have a Midjourney subscription and while MidJourney excels in artistic and realistic images, DALL-E shines in its ability to understand complex prompts and iterate on existing images. If we compare these two images you'll notice a significant difference in the artistic quality of the latest midjourney model but it can't do things like this where we are creating an image over multiple steps.

For the tech-savvy, the Plugin Library in ChatGPT Plus is a treasure trove. Third-party plugins can retrieve information directly from websites, format PDF output files, analyse code bases, and a whole lot more, making the AI tool even more resourceful

One of the things that is first noticable when using ChatGPT plus is the completion speed. It's much faster than the free version and the models in OpenAI's playground. In my tests, ChatGPT Plus demonstrated remarkable efficiency, with response times more than twice as fast as the other version, transforming waiting time into working time

Now, let's talk about data and code analysis. ChatGPT Plus is not just a conversational partner; it's a powerhouse for processing datasets and spreadsheets, spotting anomalies, and extracting information with ease

For developers, particularly those working in Python, ChatGPT Plus offers an extensive range of capabilities, from writing and editing code to providing real-time debugging assistance

Even in niche fields like Solidity smart contract development where I work, ChatGPT Plus can contribute significantly, particularly in tasks like generating Natspec comments – a feature that can be a game-changer in its own right

ChatGPT Plus is a significant upgrade. With enhanced speed, an advanced plugin library, the DALL-E image generator, and sophisticated data analysis capabilities, it offers a premium experience for those looking to integrate AI deeply into their workflows.

Is ChatGPT Plus worth the investment? If you're someone who interacts with ChatGPT regularly, I'd say yes. For $20 a month, you're not just buying a tool; you're investing in a more efficient, capable, and cutting edge AI assistant.

In this episode, I'm taking a deep dive into the popular belief in the four year cycle that many believe is set to play out for Bitcoin. Challenging the consensus, making a counter-argument on this belief and discussing the potential perils of following the crowd. From analyzing the effects of consensus on market volatility to exploring the allure of predictability in a field notorious for its uncertainty, we'll investigate why we shouldn't merely assume the four-year cycle will last forever.

Join us as we navigate the uncharted path of crypto fluctuations and unearth the reality beneath the Bitcoin four-year cycle belief.

The Feynman Technique is a learning tool developed by the infamous physicist Richard Feynman. It involves breaking down complex concepts into simple terms and explaining them as if you were teaching the subject. In March 2020 Covid lockdowns were imposed and I started creating YouTube videos based on what I was learning or interested about at the time. Over the last three years I've developed my own take on a modernised version of the Feynman technique incorporating research, blogging and video creation.

In this episode I share tips for staying private while working in the blockchain sector, explaining the importance of anonymity and privacy in the industry and takes us through their process for setting up anonymous accounts for Email, Github, and Twitter.

At 00:35, the developer talks about the importance of using an anonymous browser and shares their favourite browser for staying private. They then go on to explain how to set up an email account that can't be traced back to you.

At 02:52, the developer walks us through the steps for creating an anonymous Github profile, which can be particularly important for developers who don't want their work to be associated with their real identity.

Next, at 05:50, the developer shares their process for creating an anonymous Twitter account, which can be a useful tool for networking and keeping up to date with industry news without revealing your identity.

The episode concludes at 06:27, with the developer emphasizing the importance of staying safe and private in the blockchain sector. Listeners are reminded that the information shared in the podcast is for entertainment purposes only and should not be taken as investment or trading advice.

Don't forget to check out James Bachini's blog post for a more detailed tutorial on staying anonymous as a blockchain dev:

Staking Ethereum has become a popular way for crypto investors to earn passive returns on their holdings. Liquid staking tokens like stETH make this process even more accessible. You can buy staking tokens on Uniswap and effortlessly enjoy the rewards of staking Ethereum without having to manage the technicalities.

Lido Finance were first to offer this product and their stETH has become a DeFi giant, with over $8 billion worth of ETH staked. But with new entrants like Rocket Pool's rETH and Stakewise's sETH2 entering the scene it's become a competitive area and the question on my mind is "Should I diversify my staked Ethereum position?"

Over the next 12 months staking will open up a new opportunity for investors and funds to collect double digit annual returns on a position pegged to the US dollar. A basis, or cash and carry, trade works by buying an asset and then short selling the same futures contract. In traditional finance this is to collect the funding premium on the short as longs pay shorts a premium in most markets. The same trade with staked digital assets such as Ethereum, Solana and Luna will provide revenues on both sides of the trade... and it's going to be big business.

Growth metrics are critical to how VC's value and monitor startups in the tech space. The DeFi landscape is different and the metrics that we use are too. However on-chain transparency makes it easier than ever to gain alpha through better understanding and assessment of these metrics.

My name is James Bachini and in this video I'm going to discuss the 5 most important growth metrics for DeFi protocols and show you how I built a script to run off a quick on-chain analysis for any smart contract.

Smart contract developers have the ability to swap digital assets multiple times in a single transaction. If the route isn't profitable then the whole transaction can be rolled back to the original state and the developer only loses a gas fee. The introduction of layer2's and alternate layer1 blockchains with low and even zero gas fees has made this a playground for arbitrage across decentralised exchanges. This Solidity tutorial will provide an introduction to DEX arbitrage and along with some profitable open-source code to get you started.

What happens when two of DeFi's most influential developers join forces to build the industries worse kept secret? Daniele Sestagalli and Andre Cronje are planning to launch a project this month which combines the tokenomics of Curve finance and Olympous DAO.

The distribution of this token is quite unique. The top 20 projects by TVL on Fantom will be awarded an NFT to do with as they please. The holder of these NFT's will receive continuous distribution of the ve(3,3) token. The idea is that Fantom protocols can then distribute those tokens out to users, incentivising liquidity across the entire Fantom ecosystem.

Enter veDAO a decentralised autonomous organisation with the sole purpose of locking up enough funds to reach the top 20 and receive one of the NFT's. The DAO would then govern the value accrued from their holding. If ve(3,3) can combine Curve Finance and Olympous DAO's tokenomics, perhaps veDAO can go on to become the Convex of the Fantom ecosystem.

For more information about squeeth see the full article at https://jamesbachini.com/squeeth

A constant challenge for traders is to increase the upside potential of a trade while limiting the downside risk. Enter squeeth, or squared Ethereum which makes holders more money when price goes up and loses less when price goes down. Sound too good to be true? Well there must be a catch, right?

Squared ETH or Squeeth is a perpetual options protocol that provides unlimited upside leverage with no liquidations on long positions.

Squeeth isn't just a tool for traders, it can be used as a hedge for liquidity providers on Uniswap and it can provide a funding rate yield in sideways markets.

How is it possible that my local bank can only offer 0.1% on my savings but in DeFi 20,30 even 100% APR's are on offer? Are defi protocols and the products built on top of them just one giant ponzi scheme or is there real value being created and distributed. In this video I'm going to show you exactly where the yield comes from and why governance tokens play such a big part in the DeFi economy. We'll end with a note of caution about the sustainability of the current yield farming model.

Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, Avalanche, Polygon, Terra they are all disconnected separate blockchains. Transferring funds between them is a challenging but potentially lucrative business opportunity. I've mentioned before that I am waiting for a market leader in this field to emerge and I think we might be seeing that now.

Anyswap recently rebranded to Multichain and they've attracted $7 billion in TVL. They also have support and funding from some big names like Binance and Three Arrows Capital who valued the company at a $1.1 billion dollar valuation. The ANY token will migrate to the MULTI token with revamped tokenomics and a veMULTI model. Could this be the catalyst Multichain needs to become the market leader in cross chain transfers.

The stakes are high as control of DeFi's biggest protocol is on the line. Inflation is making headlines and attention is directed towards government statistics like the consumer price index, or CPI, which is calculated using a basket of consumers goods. However these metrics don't fully represent inflation in respect to the devaluation of our currency. In recent years the gap between the global rich and poor has been widening. The top 1% of high net worth individuals now control 47% of global wealth while the bottom two thirds of the population control just 3%. The advent of the internet has meant that businesses can scale and wealth can be created faster than ever. But wealthy individuals, for the most part, are investing their funds rather than making material purchases. That money sits in real estate, stocks, financial products and inevitably a spreadsheet. As wealth concentrates down to fewer individuals, who spend less as a percentage of their wealth, it takes money out of circulation. This creates a distorted economic impact where assets are increasing in value much faster than consumer goods. The billionaire next door probably doesn't spend significantly more on items that form the consumer price index basket of goods. The coronavirus pandemic was the biggest shock to the global markets for a generation. Entire economies shut down while people stayed at home in lock down. Yet the stock market traded at all time highs. This is because governments across the world are increasing monetary supply at an astonishing rate never seen before in history. The vast majority of this newly printed money finds its way in to financial markets to support the economy. This causes asset prices like stocks to increase which benefits those who are invested creating a scenario of the rich getting richer and a vicious circle of inequality. It's clear investments have become more expensive but are assets increasing in value or is the value of our currency decreasing? I believe that wealth concentration is having a deflationary effect causing real inflation to be far higher than advertised by government statistics. Central banks can't increase interest rates to slow down inflation without hurting the economy. I'm not sure how this plays out or what we can do to make things better but to me it doesn't feel like this isn't sustainable.

Will Wallstreetbets bankrupt Melvin Capital with Gamestop?

This is one of the greatest business stories I've ever witnessed.

For those who don't know Wallstreetbets is a subreddit which is dedicated to proudly “treating the stock market as a casino”.

Now last year one user, we'll call him DFValue found out that a lot of hedge funds had short sold Gamestop, a struggling retailer of video games.

The short interest was huge, over 100% which means more shares had been sold in the company through derivatives than actually exist. He buys a large amount of call options and starts posting about it on /r/wallstreetbets.

A series of events including a new board member and a pivot towards building their online presence created some momentum. The stock was trading below $5 in August and starts to rise to around $18 at the beginning of 2021.

As the share price starts to go up the hedge funds that shorted it start to lose money. Then things go from bad to worse for the hedge funds. Wallstreetbets users start piling in buying stocks and call options adding fuel to the fire.

One particularly exposed hedge fund, Melvin Capital had previously boasted about shorting Tesla, Elon pipes up with a single tweet gamestonks and everything goes into ludicrous mode.

The problem is that they sold so much stock there isn't enough sellers for them to buy it back at a reasonable price quick enough to cover their position.

The share price goes through the roof and is trading at over $100.

Melvin Capital has now lost more money on paper than it has. The worlds largest market maker Citadel provides a billion dollar bailout which doesn't last long. Citadel also has large influence on the brokers where they purchase order-flow.

Today Robinhood, Interactive Brokers and Ameritrade all block the purchase of Gamestop shares. They are still allowing users to sell them and close positions but not purchase. You can imagine how the wallstreetbets users reacted, many of whom use Robinhood.

Some of the biggest Wallstreet firms are opening themselves up to litigation with what is blatant unethical market manipulation. The fall out from this and knock on effects could be the most devastating since the fall of Lehman brothers in 2008.

Tomorrow a large amount of call options expire and there isn't enough liquidity. Short interest is still over 100% and the stock is flying. The big question is will Wallstreetbets users and anyone else that's jumped on the trend sell and at what price?

So I did what any spectator would do in this situation, picked up some popcorn & YOLO'd in. At this point it's not a financial investment it's a donation to the cause. There's zero chance I'm going to make any financial gains but at least I'll be able to tell my Grand kids about this one day.

I went on FTX (link in the description) and opened up a small margin position on GME/USD. I know I'll never profit from it because... I'm not fucking selling. It can get liquidated as and when the wallstreetbets users see fit.

I love a good underdog story and this has brightened up a cold wintery lockdown. To those taking on Wall Street, good luck to you.

There’s power in simple stories. Something as inconspicuous as a coffeeshop creating a “third space between work and home” can lead to a hundred billion dollar enterprise. That’s a market cap of one with eleven zeros.

So yeah brand narratives and the way companies tell their stories is important.

Narratives are so powerful in fact that nobel prize winning economist Robert J. Shiller made a case that they influence entire markets in his book Narrative Economics.

But how do brands come up with these stories and how can founders and startups tell their own story.

It starts with the why. Most companies know what they do. Good companies know how they will do it and what their competitive advantage is. The best companies have a good reason as to why they do it.

Elon Musk’s SpaceX is a great example of this. He is able to hire and motivate the most talented individuals because of the greater cause. The narrative of getting to Mars and making the human race an interplanetary species.

But maybe a Mars mission is a bit too ambitious for most founders.

Great narratives for business can include a reason to be, a founders story or a hero’s journey through conflict to success.

Authenticity is key to a story gaining traction and spreading via 3rd parties. That doesn’t mean to say that companies can’t seed their own stories through content marketing and social media.

Brand storytelling builds a brand image inline with the founders vision.

Starbucks makes coffee. They add value by creating a relaxing environment. They do this to give millions of people the option of a 3rd space between the office and home.

Cheers.

Micro conversions are minor events such as clicks and scrolls that we can use to track visitor behavior and optimize advertising and landing pages faster.

They are generally not directly linked to key performance indicators for an advertising campaign but can be used to scale (increase traffic volumes) more effectively.

Full blog post at: https://jamesbachini.com/facebook-advertising-network/

When training the pixel note that Facebook's machine learning algorithms are only as good as the data fed into them.

Make sure your conversions are being fired by people actually interested in the products. In the past I've setup pixels to fire after 10 seconds just if a visitor stays on the site. This provides little useful data to Facebook and although it looks like you are optimizing faster, it's not effective.

Video converts better than static content so use this where possible.

Always keep in mind that people are on Facebook to interact with people not businesses. This is why amateurish content and a personalized touch works better than corporate content most of the time.

Aim to get at least 50 conversion events per ad group per week to grow out of the "learning phase" and give Facebook enough data to optimize with. Create custom audiences and lookalike audiences based on these conversion events.

Set bid and budget caps to control spending but don't be afraid to test different bids as a higher bid may produce a higher click through rate but lower conversion rate because the ad auctions you are winning are coming from a better demographic.

This comes from the effect of low bidder getting the auction left overs that companies with more data don't want.

Scale campaigns both horizontally and vertically by increasing budgets and duplicating the most profitable. Note this will increase ad frequency across the campaigns so it may be worth considering refreshing the ad creatives to avoid banner blindness.

Use https://www.facebook.com/ads/library/ to spy on competitors and see what new creatives leading companies are coming up with. Look for companies that will be doing data-driven marketing at high volumes to get ideas from.

If you have a customer database, use it. You can convert email addresses or mobile phone numbers into a custom audience for retargeting campaigns.

Then in the 1960’s a marketing professor called Edmund Jerome McCarthy added another three, to make it more applicable to the growing service industries.People, Physical Evidence and Process

In the 1990’s the 4 C’s were introduced

Communication, Consumer, Convenience, Cost

And today we have the 7’C’s which form the latest Marketing Mix.These are:

Core Value Proposition

This principle is conveyed as a short statement that provides a compelling reason for a product to exist and why consumers should care. The core value proposition describes the product market fit.

Consumer Outreach

Is the concept of finding our target audience, who are they, where are they and what are they interested in?

Channels

Are the locations where we can advertise a product. This could be offline in a high street store or online on a social media platform for example.

Campaigns

Form the top level breakdown of our marketing efforts. We can have individual campaigns for different channels, offers, landing pages.Tracking each individually and optimizing accordingly.

Customer Acquisition

Is the method and cost it takes to acquire a customer.

Customer Lifetime Value

Is the total revenue that customer will generate through direct sales, repeat business or subscriptions.

Customer Journey

This is the path that a customer takes from first hearing about a brand to purchasing, receiving and hopefully telling their friends about it. Marketers use sales funnel diagrams to map out our intended customer journey. These are the 7 C’s that form the modern marketing mix.

Lead magnets are normally digital products such as eBooks or reports that are given away in exchange for an email address.

Autoresponders are automated emails that get sent out once that email address is received.

Tripwires are low cost items that convert leads into sales and generate new customers that can then go on to buy core products and services.

KPI’s or key performance indicators are business metrics which are set, collected and reviewed to give insights into the success of an organisation..

They are defined by analysing the companies objectives and deciding what quantifiable factors are most important.

A great KPI should be SMART:

  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Attainable
  • Relevant
  • Timed

This is usually quoted for personal goals but it works well for KPI’s too. Smart targets make the KPI’s actionable and accountable.

The KPI’s should be reviewed regularly and this should be agreed while defining them.

Here are 34 examples of common KPI’s which have been broken down into:

  1. Financial KPI Metrics
  2. Customer KPI Metrics
  3. Organisation KPI Metrics
  4. And Marketing KPI Metrics

A KPI dashboard is usually a simple web page which presents all the KPI data.

This can be setup using a backend data collection script which can integrate with common platforms such as:

  • Google Analytics
  • Accounting systems
  • Google Docs
  • Enterprise and cloud datastores

From there a responsive, minimalist front-end can provide authentication and display live KPI metrics to stakeholders.

Defining key performance metrics encourages a company to focus on the most important aspects of the business.

Deno is a Javascript and Typescript runtime from the creator of Node.js

For anyone that doesn’t know Node.js is a server-side Javascript  runtime. It’s used by millions of projects across the globe and powers  the backends and API’s of many of the world’s leading websites.

Then came Deno (aka Deno.js or Deno JS), an improved and updated  runtime that is quick, more secure and modern. Created by Ryan Dahl (who  was the original creator of Node.js) the project was started in 2018  and has reached a stage where it’s become a serious competitor to the  Node ecosystem.
