TRULY MR. TENNIS Well known and revered in the community as “Mr. Tennis,” Allen Krissman of Krissman International Tennis School came to Japan 30 years ago at the height of the financial bubble. He introduced the American style of teaching tennis, what the Japanese coaches and players yearned for: the aggressive attack game. Driven by the love of the sport, Allen plunged into the booming Japanese tennis market, teaching the individualistic sport to hundreds of players, from then young to the mature. Allen is passionate about teaching as a life skill. He is formulating a technique that he fondly calls “vintage tennis” so that players can continue to play well into their 70s and 80s. He believes that playing tennis contributes to longevity due to the physical movement involved, the cognitive skill enhancement, and the social interaction element of the sport. I salute Allen for his accomplishments from a lifetime teacher to another, and I hope to join him in the courts someday!
