Our names are one of the first identifiers of self. For many of us, names can carry deep personal, cultural, familial, and historical connections. And while names once acted as a practical way of telling people apart, their significance has entered a different era. Names help us feel like we belong within our communities, and more importantly, within ourselves. So what happens if that's not the case? What happens when our names make us feel alienated or out of place? And what happens when we reclaim them in effort to feel more at home within our bodies?
