The killing of George Floyd sparked nationwide protests and riots, as well as, the old cry of "Systemic Racism." Here's the thing, data on police shootings, and data on major problems facing many black American communities contradict this popular myth. Let's be clear though, racism does exist in America. There are racist individuals, there are racist organizations, and yes there are probably a handful of truly racist police out there. However that does not mean racism is systemic in America. Meanwhile, other things in America are systemic and that helps us know the difference. So let's talk about what "systemic" actually means and why, for the sake of black Americans - and everyone else - that is the key to identifying and solving the more pressing problems facing Americans.
