Not only is it one of his most profound compositions, it's also a work shrouded in mystery and controversy. Mozart died before he could complete it, so of the version most often used these days, how much of it is pure Mozart? The 1984 film Amadeus makes out that he was the subject of deadly jealousy by a rival composer Antonio Salieri, and that the Requiem plays a key part in their interaction.
