In the summer of 2016, Prof. Patricia Maguire from UCD's Conway Institute came up with the idea of a community choir for University College Dublin as a way to bring people together from across the university.

With the tremendous support of Prof. Joe Carthy – our College Principal from the College of Science, the first practice session of the choir was held that September and from that small beginning the community choir has continued to grow and flourish.

The choir is comprised of current and retired staff members from all over UCD and, with a core group of 70 singers and many more that come and go over the course of the year, has become a much loved fixture at many UCD events. The choir practices every Tuesday lunchtime and usually performs two to three times per trimester. The choir has been directed by Ms. Caoimhe O’Neill from its inception.

In 2018 the choir was recognised for its role in bringing the UCD community together in a positive and vibrant way by winning one of the six inaugural UCD Values in Action Awards. This December will see the choir perform its fourth annual Christmas recital, and in March 2020 its first ever full concert will take place, in aid of Special Olympics Ireland.
