Rathdown Cantori was founded in 2005. The aim of the choir is to provide adults with the opportunity to meet together socially and explore the enjoyment of singing in a choir. Under the baton of conductor Siobhán Kennedy-Perri, the Ladies have progressed from a tentative first recital to performing at the American Ambassador’s Christmas party for the Irish-American Society(at the Residence, for three years running 2007 –’09), competing in festivals and competitions and have many successful annual concerts and recitals under their belts. They have co-performed with other choirs including Brittas Bay Singers, Greystones Synchrony Choir and the Celtic Choristers

Recent Choir Highlights:

In 2012 they took first place in the Arklow Music Festival Advanced Ladies Choir section, having come second the year before,

Also in 2012 they performed in the National Concert Hall, as part of the Rathdown School show, with a David Mooney arrangement of Irish songs (The Cat’s Ramble to a Child’s Saucer)

In 2013 as part of the Irish Russian Society’s 140th Anniversary Rachmaninoff commemoration they performed once again in the NCH, for which they received a favourable review in the Irish Times.

2013 highlights also included participation in RTE’s Big Music Week, a “flashmob” performance of the Hallelujah Chorus in Dundrum Shopping Centre, conducted by David Brophy.

In 2014 the choir featured on Lyric fm in the Carols for Christmas competition with a recording of an original carol “Buvez Bien”, penned by director Siobhán Kennedy-Perri.

In 2016 they celebrated the 10th Anniversary of their formation. It was a special night, hosted by Lyric FM’s Bernadette Comerford.

In March of this year they came 2nd in the Arklow Music Festival "Light Jazz and Popular" section of the choral competition. (Photo taken at this event)
