When we hear parables and texts like this week's lectionary passage in Luke, we often hear them as imperatives or telling us what to do or how to live our lives. 

When you hear the text in this week's podcast episode, pay attention to how you react to it. 

Does your heart automatically think how to accomplish what's being asked? 

Dr. Chris Croghan teaches us that God doesn't operate in if-then statements like if we are prepared, then we'll be ready when Jesus returns. He works in because-therefore statements like because I am the Son of God, I took on the sin of the world.
