Goad has long been a presence on the Dissident Right, but he has no real ideology and is only capable of crude ad hominem attacks, larded with low-brow, American naughty words. He is essentially an "edgytarian" Boomer with little or no moral compass and rather tedious atheist views, apparently based on not being loved by his parents as a child.

He is considered an "Alt-Right" figure thanks to his largely forgotten 2019 appearances on Richard Spencer's YouTube channel and being the most popular but least interesting writer at Greg Johnson's Neo-Nazi Counter-Currents site, which he joined after being sacked by Taki's Magazine in 2020. He is a self-confessed wife beater, drug taker, and bisexual, and has an autistic son called Zane, with his divorced second wife Shannon. He often tries to use this child for moral capital, despite spending his whole life mocking the disabled and using terms like "retard" with gay abandon.
Since joining Greg Johnson's stable, he has adopted more obviously anti-Semitic views in order to fit in with his paymaster.

He is also known for a rather ridiculous, long-running feud with Matt Forney, in which Forney is now well ahead on points following this hilarious Luke Ford live stream from 2018, which continually centred back on Jim's self-admitted homosexual experiences some years back with a Black boy. Goad's work has also commented frequently on the homosexual relations that occur in prison, adding to the widely-held suspicion that Jim was subjected, either willingly or unwillingly, to such encounters during his three years in prison.

His most well-known book is the Red Neck Manifesto (1997), which shows his knack of pairing a catchy and promising title with a turgid and overwrought writing style that has little of worth to say. Probably his most significant contribution to the arts has been his coining of the term "Shit magnet" to describe people, rather like himself, who constantly get involved in pointless drama, needless mishaps, and avoidable accidents.
