Tango Gameworks, the studio founded by the master of horror Shinji Mikami, has surprise dropped a brand new rhythm action game during the Xbox Developer Direct event.

Hi-Fi RUSH is a rhythm game set in a colorful world where every movement is driven by the beat of the music. Unlike most traditional rhythm games, the player has full real-time control, however if they time their combat moves to the beat, their attacks will be amplified along with the music.

In Hi-Fi Rush you play the role of Chai, a young slacker who has some lofty ambitions. When receiving a robotic arm, he finds that his music player has been fused to his power unit. The corporate overlords have labeled him a defect, and have marked him for deactivation, which kicks off the adventure ahead.

The soundtrack of Hi-Fi Rush includes fully licensed tracks from heavyweights such as Nine Inch Nails, and The Black Keys, which will make for a fun jam.

I am definitely getting flashbacks to Jet Set Radio and Sunset Overdrive here, which is definitely a good thing in my books. I am also personally excited to see Tango Gameworks step outside of their comfort zone after the fantastic The Evil Within series, and the less well received Ghostwire: Tokyo. This looks fresh, and fun, and a new challenge for the studio.

Hi-Fi RUSH is available right now via Game Pass on Xbox and PC, along with Steam, the Microsoft Store, and the Epic Games Store.
