ABC ILLAWARRA BREAKFAST PROGRAMME:
Kiama Council has been historically male-dominated...Until now, there were eight men and just one woman sitting on local government.
Of course, the issue of a lack of diversity is not just of concern to Kiama, but councils all across the state.
This year, there was a strong push for women, particularly those that are young, to put their hat in the ring.
The encouragement seems to have worked, seeing as returning Greens councillor, Kathy Price is no longer the only female sitting on council, and will be joined by three other women.
One of the newly elected is 22-year-old Imogen Draisma.
Our reporter, Fatima Olumee chatted to both Kathy and Imogen about how they are feeling about the new council make-up.
