Let’s talk about mom anger. Most, if not all, moms deal with this on some level, yet we often think we’re the only ones. A lot of us didn’t even realize we struggled with anger until we had kids. In today’s episode, my hope is that you would feel less alone in your struggle with anger, and that together, we can find some help and hope for just how to deal with it.

Show Notes:

Ephesians 4:26

Philippians 2:12b-13

How to Deal with Anger:

  1. When you feel anger rising up, take a five-minute reset.
  2. Believe it’s possible to change. Don’t just give in to your anger, but actively fight to respond in a better way.

In a moment of responding in anger:

  1. Take a deep breath and just stop talking.
  2. Pray, out loud if you need to, and ask Jesus for help.
  3. Apologize to your kids for responding in anger.
  4. If possible, take a five-minute reset.

This week’s practice:

Sit down and make a plan for what you’ll do when you feel angry. Instead of waiting until the heat of the moment when you’re losing your cool, take some time when you are calm and things are quiet to decide ahead of time what you will do.

Examples:

  1. When I feel anger stirring under the surface, I will close myself in my room for two minutes of silence and prayer.
  2. When I catch myself yelling, I will stop, take two deep breaths, apologize to my kids, and walk away to regroup.
  3. Instead of yelling, say in a calm voice the words “I’m feeling angry” and then state why. Rather than SHOWING your anger by yelling, express it in a calm and rational way.
