I took three disposable film cameras on my trip to India. Some might think that’s a little excessive, but I wanted to capture every fleeting moment – from camels in the Rajasthan desert, to cruising down the Keralan backwaters, and everything in between. I love the simplicity and element of surprise you get with a disposable camera. You never know how the images are going to turn out, until the moment you head to Boots and collect your developed film with fingers crossed. Will they all just be dark and blurry? Will they be overexposed? Will my finger feature heavily? There’s a certain nostalgia; harking back to the days when it wasn’t all about pointing your iPhone at anything and everything, then immediately uploading to Instagram. There’s the wait, the suspense. It reminds me of school trips – although all of those snaps were skewed, grey, and cold-looking. My India disposables turned out surprisingly well in comparison. I think they portray the vibrancy, chaos, and serenity of the country, and they’re all the better for their imperfections. Here are a few of my favourites.
