What comes to mind when you think of opera? For most people it's bugs bunny, old rich people, and foreign languages. On this episode we learned that opera is so much more than this outdated and stuffy perception. We dig deep into the Victoria opera scene to prove that opera is more contemporary and relevant than you might think.
The hormone monster affects all of us whether we like it or not. On this episode, we look at the lesser known impacts and uses of hormones by talking about the use of hormones by trans folks, how hormones factor into menopause, and what its like to have poly-cystic ovarian syndrome.
Where do immigrants, refugees, settlers of colour fit on the continuum of colonization? How can we take guidance from Indigenous communities to be allies of Indigenous sovereignty and resurgence? These questions and others are explored in this episode.
Why are mental health services at UVic so lacking? How is this impacting the success of students? And is anybody doing anything about it? On this episode, we find out.
The music scene is Victoria is dominated by whiteness, despite their being a huge number of Indigenous and POC artists here. We talked to organizers, activists, and artists about how people are working to decentre whiteness, and go beyond an inclusion model to promote autonomy and leadership for Indigenous and POC folks in the music scene.
What is the connection between the law and our senses? We speak with professors in the Indigenous Legal Orders (JID) program at UVic to learn about what the natural world can teach us about justice and law.
Women in STEM are a minority. Even though there seems to be a push to get more women to apply to these programs, often they don’t stay enrolled because they experience bias, othering, and hostile attitudes. What are the larger scale impacts of this trend? And what are people at UVic doing about it? On this episode, we find out.

Music transcends language, and can be used in infinite ways to help people with different abilities increase mobility, to help people cope with grief, and even to help people heal from physical trauma. On this episode, we investigate the experiential world of music therapy.
We have an affordable housing crisis in Victoria. It’s meant that people have been forced into tent cities, many low income folks face housing insecurity, and many other consequences that disproportionately affect people of colour and those experiencing poverty. On this episode, we’re looking at one of the impacts of the housing crisis, and how it affects local musicians. For people who play music, finding affordable housing where you're allowed to make noise is a constant struggle. We look into how local musicians are finding creative solutions to this problem, and we parse out the systemic factors that led us to this situation.

What Binds Us states that men are higher paid and considered greater than women at their sport. What Binds Us argues that this is not true and emphasizes how amazing female athletes are. It includes women rower and Canadian Sports Hall of Famer Silken Laumann, track star and Canada's first female to win a world championship Perdita Felicien, Canada's most decorated Paralympic swimmer of all time time Stephanie Dixon, Canada's first gold medalist in swimming in the Olympics in 24 years Penny Oleksiak, Team Canada's rugby physiotherapist Kiyomi Thompson, and the only Paralympian of all time to win gold medals in two different sports Michelle Stilwell, she is now a member of the BC Legislative Assembly. It was a real special experience to do this full length documentary and I thank all of my interviewees. This documentary also features music, a song called Women Round Town by Josh Armistead. It sets students up with a 30 minute assessment with a family doctor and a psychiatrist in an effort to help reduce the wait times for full psychiatric appointments.

Our correspondant Miyoko is back with the theme of homelessness. She met the director of Us & Them, a film featured at Cinecenta last month during homelessness week and Dr Bernie Pauly, a researcher specialized in homelessness, poverty and addiction at UVIC.
