The Impossible Life Pastor Joe Benke, October 20/21, 2018

Worship Notes: In the Gospel lesson Jesus notes the remarkable difficulty of a rich person entering the kingdom of God. And who is the rich person? It must be someone else. We look at our lives and the world tells us that no matter how much we have, it is not enough. Indeed, we soon become aware that the things we think we own, own us. We have to attend to them, maintain them, increase them, cherish them. The wealth Jesus offers is not stuff. Wealth is the gifts that God offers freely and without demand. We don’t earn them, achieve them, or own them. As a result, we live as free people in a world of those who are slaves to what they own. And we do it only by the grace of God. We are invited to live the impossible life, impossible by the world’s standards, by the gift of God in Jesus Christ.
