Question, does Jesus offer two acceptable standards for living the Christian life; a less demanding one for 'ordinary Christians', and an optional, more challenging version for those who commit themselves to be 'disciples'? Christian defined: Adherent or follower of Christ; those who belong to Him; people of Christ; servants of Christ; Little Christ. Disciple defined: • "One who has come to Jesus for eternal life, has claimed Jesus as Savior and Lord, and has embarked on the life of following Jesus," Michael Wilkins. • "A disciple is one who responds to the call of Jesus in faith, resulting in a relationship of absolute allegiance and supreme loyalty through which Jesus shares His own life and the disciple embarks on a lifetime of learning to become like his Master," William Kynes. • "At salvation, a believer becomes a disciple...discipleship is a walk that lasts the rest of one's life," Darrell Bock. Matthew 28:18-20, NLT To make a disciple, you must be a disciple. Christian, believer, and disciple are synonymous. A Christian is called to live a life of wholehearted discipleship to Jesus. The clearest definition of a disciple is provided by Jesus in Matthew 4:19. In this short sentence, we see three essential elements of a disciple: 1. Come, follow me... A disciple is one who follows Jesus. We think like Jesus. 2. And I will make you... A disciple is one who is being changed by Jesus. We act like Jesus. 3. Fishers of men... A disciple is engaged in the mission of Jesus. We live for Jesus.
