Three primary qualifications for the high priest: The high priest comes from among the people; The high priest's job is to represent people in matters related to God; The position of high priest is not a job one chooses for himself.

The writer of Hebrews tells us how Jesus fulfills each one: God appointed Jesus to be the high priest; Jesus stood between God and man;

Jesus earned the right to be our high priest through His reverent submission and His obedience. When Jesus came to earth as a man, He achieved His full potential. We can too, if we follow His example: Seek God's call for our life, vs. 4-6; John 5:30; 4:24; Make solitude a top priority, v. 7; Mark 1:35; Luke 5:16; Luke 22:42; Be ready to grow through suffering and obedience, v. 8.

As Jesus lived His life in reverent submission to God, making prayer and fellowship with God a top priority, and as He learned obedience through suffering, we are called to follow in His footsteps. As we follow, we too will realize our potential in building His Kingdom!
