The questions in our text today, asked by the religious leaders, were not for the purpose of personal growth, honest inquiry, or seeking the truth. The purpose was to embarrass Jesus, discredit Him, and try to catch Him in a mistruth so they would have grounds to have Him killed.

Question 1, about authority, vs. 1-19

Question 2, about taxes, vs. 20-26 Government has a legitimate realm, Romans 13:1; Philippians 3:20; 1 Peter 1:1; God has a legitimate realm. If the two realms are in conflict, then God takes priority, Acts 4:19; 5:29.

Question 3, about the Resurrection, vs. 27-40 Jesus' response to the Sadducees... You are wrong about the Resurrection; You are wrong about the Law.

Question 4, about identity, vs. 41-44 Psalm 110:1 is both a prophetic and messianic scripture; it speaks of the enthronement of the One to come.

A warning, vs. 45-21:4

We have a choice: To live out this life on the surface; a life that is shallow, looking for public recognition and personal gain but lacks in personal holiness: EXTERNAL ADORNMENT; To let His life go deep, impacting every area of our life; wholly yielded, fully devoted, knowing that all I am and all I possess belong to Him: INTERNAL TRANSFORMATION.
