In the turmoil and unrest across our nation with places like Ferguson, Missouri becoming flashpoints for racial tension, we find our divided culture constantly battling to find a sense of unity. Hatred, past wounds, political agendas, and the like, force people in our nation to seek for answers. With nowhere outwardly to look for hope, people are turning to the church. But, the church can be just as empty as the rest of society in regard to racial diversity and providing real truth about walking in unity. The Bible teaches in Colossians 3:11 that in Christ, there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all… yet Sunday still remains the most segregated day in America. This begs the question, “Why isn't the church today bridging the racial divide effectively?” Despite Jesus’ prayer that all Christians “be one,” division has been an epidemic in the body of Christ from the beginning to the present. We cluster in theological groups, cultural groups, economic groups, and most noticeably, ethnic groups. Sadly, we often criticize those who disagree with us, don’t look like us, and don’t act like us. In response to this situation, several pastors from different backgrounds and denominations came together to hold this candid and authentic panel discussion on multiracial unity in the church. This “Unity in Diversity” panel discussion was unprecedented in Pensacola. The questions and topics discussed were forthright and uncensored.
