Applications for the $5,000 funding opportunity to cover a national or global underreported science, health or environmental issue are due at 5 p.m. Friday, March 24, 2023.

The Smith/Patterson Science Journalism Fellowship is a collaboration with the Pulitzer Center, and bedsides the monetary stipend includes a pairing with a professional journalist mentor, who will assist with editing and story placement, and a trip to Washington D.C. to meet with other Pulitzer student fellows for Fellows Weekend.

The application materials include three references, a generalized budget, a 250-word pitch, and 2-3 samples of published work. The opportunity is exclusive to undergraduate or graduate students currently enrolled in the Missouri School of Journalism.
