Over the past 10 years, suicide rates have been increasing in Malaysia, particularly among young people between the ages of 13-to-17.
That said, feeling suicidal can happen at any point in life, regardless of our life situation, and as today marks World Suicide Prevention Day, this special feature of Empowering Lives focuses on how we can develop a better understanding of suicide and support someone experiencing suicidal thoughts and feelings.
Sharing her insights on the topic is Grace Chan, a licensed and registered counsellor at HELP University. Grace's counselling experience includes working with people who have struggled with anxiety, depression, self-harm, and suicidal impulses, and she believes that how we offer support is the key to preventing people from acting on their suicidal thoughts.
