A lot of these tips might seem like really simple things but trust us, these are what makes or breaks client/assistant relationships. Think about your favorite babysitter…
You’ve probably had someone babysit that did the job, everyone was safe and happy when you returned but maybe the house was a mess, and the kids weren’t quite asleep yet. And maybe they forgot that you didn’t want the kids to get specific toys out and you find them out when you get home…
Now think of a babysitter that when you got home, the kids were in bed… Your house was cleaner than when you left, dinner was put away and they even left a status report of how the evening went.
Maybe those weren’t the requirements to being your babysitter but they went above and beyond to make sure your experience with them as a babysitter was great. They want to be…
Irreplaceable.
And this applies to lots of things, not just assistants and babysitters. What makes any brand, store or service provider your favorite? They go above and beyond what you ask!
I think of my go-to baker for all of our family's birthday cakes. (shout out to Two Sons Cakery!) I am literally eating on some of her leftover birthday cake as I type this. 😂 She goes out of her way to make sure the cakes are exactly what my kiddos want. If she doesn’t know about the subject or theme for the cake, she does her research! She puts her own artistic flare on them to make them unique and they always make each birthday that much more special. And because of that, I have no reason to go to any other bakery. Two Sons Cakery has become irreplaceable to our family for cakes (and macaroons, seriously you should order some from her, she’s amazing). And when it comes to paying for her goodies, I really don’t even ask the price because I know what I’m getting is worth the cost.
It’s the exact same as a Virtual Assistant. When your clients know what they are getting from you and they don’t want to have to go back to doing things without your support...they won’t question your rate because to them, it’s worth it.
And the thing is, when you truly enjoy the work that you do...it’s pretty easy to become irreplaceable to your customers. This is why we encourage our VA students to look for clients they would enjoy working with. When you enjoy working with them, you are willing to pour all of yourself into supporting them.
Don’t take this roll lightly, mama! The support you provide as a VA is important and when delivered well...it is irreplaceable. Don’t forget that!
