So come back later for the foodie experience of a lifetime.
Where do I start about Nandos and their Peri Peri Chicken? Well at the beginning of course….. The first time I heard about the spicy Portuguese chicken was when I first tried it in Portugal. We had recently moved house and had just started renting our first apartment here in Portugal.
It was in a small town in the Algarve in Southern Portugal and even though we don’t live there now, we are still just 10 minutes drive away if we fancy a chicken fix. The town itself has a busy Saturday morning market, a few shops, a beautiful river, a great park that the local families love but where you can exercise too.

We lived there for just short of six years and had a great time.
But I still remember the day we moved in as if it was yesterday. It was a bank holiday and unlike countries like in England when things are still open, if it is a major bank holiday everything is closed here and it is like a ghost town.
So we ended up having to drive hours into the city to get some grocery shopping as we had absolutely nothing in to eat.
On the phone to my mum, she said that we must try the chicken place within the week or else. Like my life depended on it. All she said is you will know which one it is and it cooks Chicken Piri Piri outside.
Well in our typical bad luck style we went to the wrong one. We went next door and it was horrible. And of course that was our first proper taste of it. As all we had tried before this was a bad campsite experience that was over spicy and with a huge amount of soggy horrible fries.
What we were looking for was the real thing. Something authentic that would get us excited about spicy barbecued chicken.
So eventually we made it next door to the right one. And we wasn’t disappointed. We had the most amazing piri piri chicken served with homemade chips, Mediterranean salad and served with bread and olives. Plus it was washed down with white wine for the perfect chicken experience.
We were hooked. So when people started talking about Nandos and Peri Peri Chicken we realised there really wasn’t much difference between one and the other. It was also nice to say that we had the real thing here in Portugal at a much cheaper price. To say that we were paying (and still pay now in 2017) just 8€ each and it includes drinks and desserts is truly magical and makes us so grateful for our life here in Portugal.
You can actually read our review on one of our local Portuguese restaurants that serves Piri Piri Chicken each Wednesday. We published it yesterday and if you’re ever on holiday here in Portugal then you must try it.

We have lost count now, how many times we have tried Piri Piri Chicken over the years. Even the rotisserie chicken sold in the supermarkets here is Piri Piri.
So as we are celebrating nine years living in the Algarve this month we thought of nothing better than getting our Airfryer out and showing you how to make the most amazing Nandos Peri Peri Chicken yourself.
Plus if you cook it like we do, then it is so healthy too. Perfect for if you are on the Whole 30, Paleo,
