Old Way: Synthesized Electric Piano New Way: Actual EP Recordings that are built into virtual instruments that are then put through a lot of processors to make them SOUND like Synthesized Electric Pianos. Old Way: Synthesized Ocarina New Way: Assemble recordings of an ocarina player, and then make a virtual instrument that captures beautiful expression and legato lines... turn off all that fancy stuff and play it like a crappy synth.

There are drum machines in here that were placed on a stage, put through amps, recorded on microphones, then digitally processed to sound more like drum machines. You’re welcome.

There are 54 beads on a Buddhist prayer mala. These are used for counting recitations and chants. There are 54 beats per minute in this song. Coincidence? Sure is. What, you're going through an entire mala cycle in a minute? That's crazy talk! Studies have shown the optimal number of mantras in a single set is somewhere between 15 and 20 anyway... so don't waste your money on the 54 or 108 bead versions. You'll be a lot better doing more sets of less reps. And don't forget leg day.

Did you know that people in the 1800s used to make tea out of mummies they dug up in Egypt? Tea. Like the kind you drink. That is because people in the 1800s were dumb. They were so stupid, they thought seaweed was really quite interesting. Today, you would have to be a marine botanist to think seaweed is that exciting. I don't need to mention how "exciting" marine botanists are... Carl! Finding some Caulerpa 20 kilometers outside its published range is no reason to write a paper! And it is certainly no reason to be LATE for your OWN PARTY, CARL!!!
SpoooooOOoooky! Nothing says comedically spooky quite like a theramin. I don't actually own a theramin, so I cheated. Like I do. This one was created with the ES2 synth, which everyone I know hates and/or fears. It really is just misunderstood, and is quite lovely at parties.
Wretched Destroyer

Have you ever heard a 4 bassoon ensemble before? Not likely. While bassoonists may create temporary pair-bonds, they are never found in groups of 3 or more. Much digital trickery was involved in this piece to make them appear as though they were all in the same room at the same time. Tuba players, on the other hand exhibit extreme flocking behaviour, and have even been spotted in mass migrations.

High-energy, fast-paced, and memorable, this is a great background to your 2D platformer. It was actually written for a 2D platformer, which is why it will loop back on itself so well. Like Ouroboros! If you're looking for a high school mascot, PLEASE consider Ouroboros. I'm not sure if it would make for great cheerleading routines, or if it would end up looking more like a human centipede.... But there is one way to fine out! Go! Fighting Ouroboroses!!
Grim Idol

This piece gets a lot of its crazy from the exposed dissonances. So, before you start going on and on about "wrong" notes; They are there for a reason! I'm almost sure of it. They really sound quite intentional. Why else would I write something like that? Totally done with forethought. Yup. 100% on purpose.
Part alien cacophony, part organic awfulness, part six of seven. If you set this piece as music you wake up to in the morning, you're going to have a bad, bad day. There will be half remembered monsters from the times of not-asleep, not-awake... whose only jobs are to induce unexpected nausea inside government buildings.
Part five of seven. Airy, but not in the "I'm outdoors, and everything is great 'airy'" way. More like the "the alien machine that sustains our life is slowly breaking down and poison is beginning to seep from its core" way. Whatever is happening... it isn't fast, and it isn't good.
Part seven of seven. A real mind bender. This one is all acoustic, and no artificial synths, so it has an organic feel. Not Certified Organic, just normal organic. So, that means it looks better, requires less fertilizer, has fewer pests and a higher yield.
Shadowlands 2 - Bridge Synths, Prepared Piano Part two of seven. Very close clusters of tones bring the tension! And that tension wanes and waxes without notice. If you want your audience to be concerned, this is how you do it.
Shadowlands 1 - Horizon Synths Part one of seven. Sort of an edgy-underwater feel... which isn't common. You can feel the struggle just trying to get the sounds out. Imagine a small rhinoceros at a tea party. The image you have in your head has nothing to do with this piece; But it is quite amusing.
Shadowlands 4 - Breath Synths Part four of seven. This is the pizza cutter of this series, round and edgy. It has a little bit of melodic complexity, but mostly it just sits around being creepy. Should work well under dialog.
Shadowlands 3 - Machine Synths Part three of seven. Part pipe organ, part broken pipe organ, this isn't just spooky, it is crazy spooky. It also has a musical theme, which not all of this horror moody stuff has. Consider it the jelly filling in your horror doughnut.

Oh sure, I've heard the name, but I don't associate it with anything specific. Chicago: Hot Dogs. Amsterdam: Offensively tall Dutch. Moscow: "Stop a Douchebag". Shenyang: No clue. How did I miss this city?? You already know if you need this piece, it has a more satisfying low-end than actual real Chinese music, and it should fit in with your modern productions well.

Okay, the violins aren't playing that many notes... had to pick up the 2nd violin off the waiver wires, and there wasn't enough time to get her up to speed on the offense for this piece. So we made an executive decision, and kept things simple. We should still be able to get some good yardage here, and hope to win on defense.

Before you complain about the bass, that is the entire point of this mix. It is scary-bass... yet somehow subdued. If this bass was a car, it would be a cement mixer... That's a terrible analogy. Forgetting for the moment that a cement mixer isn't a car... I guess they have the ones that are mounted on big trucks - and those trucks share a lot in common with cars, you know steering wheels, engines, tires, and the soon-to-be-anachronistic internal combustion engine. Anyway, if you don't like the bass you can pretty easily EQ it to a reasonable level, or buy the stems and remix it yourownself. Before you complain about the use of the word "yourownself", I wrote it. You understood it. It is a word. There is also some dreamy flute in here.

You need to wait until 16 seconds in to hear what the doo-do-do-DAH-do-do-doo-do-do-DAH sounds like. I know it can be difficult reading KRN (Kevin's Rhythmic Notation). A-do-do-dooo-a-da-da-daaah is all I want to say to you.

A little aggressive, a little chill, a little groovy, a little cool. Not entirely appropriate for all occasions, but in the right context - it may be just what you need! This is the "Goth 7th-Grader" of the music world. The instrument with the sharp chord hits is the mighty Mellotron, which is a pre-sampler sort of analog keyboard attached to a bunch of tape players. I cheated. This one is digital.
The Year: Future Year. The planet has been ravaged by desertification... that apparently no one saw coming... Not sure how that happened, I mean Jeez! Anyone ever hear of a little disaster called "The Aral Sea"? That seriously screwed up... like... everything. I guess the dam is supposed to help, but I'm seriously not holding my breath. Oh. Industrial-sounding music.
I was looking for a subject to analogize the depth of my knowledge for the Chill Wave genre of music. Wikipedia was there for me with entire things that I didn't even know were things; Randle Cotgrave! Yeon Namgeon! Digital Mammographic Imaging! Rebelj, Serbia! In brief... I know nothing about Chill Wave. Hope you enjoy the fruits of ignorance!
This is the first slow 8-bit piece I ever tried. There was some skepticism going in, but holy man! This turned out great! You can use it for your game credits, or more chill parts of your game. Maybe at the Healing Shack, or the Abe Vigoda Memorial Pagoda and Koi Pond. The uncompressed download has a bonus percussion track.
Gorgeous, rich piano chords run counter to subtle percussions. This piece is a workhouse for video productions. Don't bother with the preview, just download this thing. Because seriously... planning a cat rescue? This will work. Attending someone else's family reunion and trying to convince them you're related? Yes. This will work. Time lapse of a rocket assembly? Remember that time you were lost in the woods and you were visited by the clan of centaurs, and they were super suspicious of you, but decided to take you back to their settlement anyway? It never happened! That was a screen memory! There are no centaurs, and they wouldn't live in forest settlements! That was an alien abduction. The aliens planted the memory of the forest centaurs so your brain wouldn't implode with the knowledge of trans-dimensional beings... such as themselves. And... unrelated, but... what comes to mind when you think about the smell of wet cardboard and Sriracha?

You can sort of make the hummus taste like Italian hummus if you use enough oregano, basil, and... chili flakes or something. So, then you make it, and realize it should be called a "Flaccid Spiced Hummus Ball". Eating a flaccid spiced hummus ball helps to assess your life choices... that eventually led you to eating a flaccid spiced hummus ball.
Jazzy! Gumshoe-y! Mystery-y! I suck at making adjectives. Who needs adjectives anyway! I'm fine without adjectives. How fine without adjectives, you may ask? I can't say - as that would require some sort of descriptor! And I don't need descriptors in my writings... Maybe one... tiny little... NO! What am I thinking!? I refuse! I've completely had it with adjectives! Hah! Adverbs work perfectly fine! Woohoo! Adverbs! And before I get mail... adjectives killed my family, so I can go off on them all I want.
At the intersection of relaxation and horror lies "The Ossuary". Part 5: Rest After some amount of introspection, I can only conclude that this is the afterlife, or some entryway to the afterlife... or a really cool club in the Meatpacking district after-hours.
This is the most genuinely relaxing piece of the Ossuary suite... still has a bit of an edge.
Odd metals and percussion underscore the only piece in the series with a clear clean synth. There's some amount of technology under this thing. The synth is quickly overtaken by the bizarre drones. Perfect for; being stranded in space... in a ship.
