Known as the “consort” of Baal as Asherah; the “goddess of love, beauty and sexuality” as Aphrodite in Greek mythology (Venus for the Romans); the ancient Mesopotamian goddess of war and sexual love, Ishtar; Inanna in Sumerian culture; or known simply as the “Queen of Heaven” in other cultures, this spiritual power continues to insidiously work in our cultures today, usually under the guise of “love” and “beauty” and even “tolerance”.From the “free love” movement of the 60s to “Queer Theory” today, the ‘goddess of love’ also brings chaos, violence, and oppression. She promises freedom but only brings bondage.
